Alert to the three major causes of car accidents: fatigue, speeding, and drunk-driving

Drunk driving is one chief cause for car accidents and it brings fatal injuries as well as severe car damages from the number of a few to many. While this may all come from just one more sip of wine, the consequences are rather unbearable that lives are lost and family members of the car accident victims will mourn their loved ones for the years that follow. However, the numerous lives claimed by drunk driving traffic accidents seemed not discouraged offenses that the same road tragedies repeat themselves and show a rising tendency. Therefore, the authority is urged to step up law enforcement and increase penalties for offenders, and intensify patrolling at traffic points of high accident rate.

Nine out of ten accidents are due to speeding. Accordingly, it is recommended that a driver follow the time-proven wisdom to wait for three additional minutes rather than trying to beat the lights in the last second. The driver should also realize that fear of being late, competing for a head start, and seeking excitement are all psychological causes for over-speeding. By reducing maneuverability, over-speeding makes the vehicle more prone to collisions with more severe consequences, especially in an emergency situation where the driver's ability to control speed and direction becomes critical. To help spot and catch potential offenders on the road early enough, high-tech surveillance devices such as traffic cameras should be widely installed.

Insufficient sleep is a primary cause of fatigue driving. It can cause symptoms on the driver such as frequent yawns, eye rubbing, and less responsive arm and leg muscles. The highest accident rate is registered with drivers who sleep for less than four and half hours while being behind the wheel for over ten hours in a day. It is therefore extremely important that the driver ensure himself sufficient sleep. Another cause for fatigue driving is hot and humid weather. Statistical research shows that by causing more traffic accidents, fatigue driving, together with drunk driving, has surpassed over-speeding and overloading to become new killers on the road.

There are still other behind-wheel behaviors that violate traffic laws, such as using cell-phone while driving, driving without license,  beating red traffic lights, tailgating, zigzagging, and even driving in wrong lanes with opposite traffic. Small ornaments hanging around, as many drivers like, can distract a driver's attention from the wheel, hence a potential cause of traffic accidents. Note, these bad driving habits can be very persistent that may easily compromise the new technologies developed for safe driving. Therefore, it is imperative to educate the public and the drivers in particular to increase their awareness of the importance of safe driving.

Clap my hands!

It is interesting 酒後駕駛 is called "drink-driving" in Australia, may be that includes drink-while-driving?

"...seemed not discouraged offenses that .."

I don't think "seem do" or " seem not do" is gramatically sound?

Drink and drive can't happen at the same time, If you offend this, sooner or later, you will be punished.

May every driver drives safely and enjoy driving!! Also when they don't drive, ENJOY drinking!!!

In China, accidents on road are specially most severe, It is said that vehicles on china roads accounting for less 11% of world totality contribute as much as 40% of traffic casualties, annually, which possibly results from poor traffic facilities, traffic safty awareness, and low cost to offending rules.

yes. you can choose only one, either to enjoy the time sitting in a bar or make sure that you are sober behind the steering wheel. you can't both at or about the same time. drinking and driving don't help each other. drunk or drink driving is dangerous.

haoone, i used "seemed" as if it is an auxiliary verb "was". it is close in meaning to "appeared (to be) not discouraged".

p.s., for other translations of "酒後駕駛", see the first link provided on floor #1.

We also need to be aware of having no safe belt is one of main reasons including the above to cause to severe accidents.

I slowly sense, my speed is slower down than last yr, having no mind of hastening whenever i am on lane. As more and less accidents poppes up in my life make me awareness of my precise life.

it could happen to most of friends in virtuality for a simple reason of being lazy or uncomfortable to do so.

Let me give a true story happened to my brother in law at early this year, he drove to a place with his friend, overtaking the front trunk on single lane, he didn't noitce another coming trunk. of course, a servere accident took place into his life and he was sent to hospital for admit along with his friend, eventually, car was cracked and gone, but his friend was under serious admit over 3 days for having without safebelt.

He is lucky for having his belt only staying a day admit.

i am so sorry to hear the accident and feel relieved as they both ended up still being alive after the accident. thinking of the scene, it was really scary. there was a car with its engine gunned up trying to pass over a big guy, yet another big guy was driving in the opposite direction to make a head on collision. it must be a miracle that your brother and his friend could walk out of the hospital in just a couple days without losing anthing due to the accident. what the lucky guys!

I have the same feeling as Adelyn. For the sake of your safety  or other people's safety, Please always remind of wearing the seatbelt. Sometimes I think, if I was the manufacturer of Vehicles, I should add alarm system  to remind those who don't wear seatbelt! Very childish, ain't I?

But the purpose of 在車流中穿行 is to overtake, except it is an on-going behavior; i support using "zigzagging" for 在車流中穿行, for it is more vivid.

Thanks for bringing the link to my attention. Another good place to explore.

Interesting that the specially-mentioned "stop, revive, survive" is the slogan of Australia Road Traffic Authotity (RTA), but as the comment rightly put, it is a road warning of fatigue driving.

As to "seemed" being the paralell of "was", I agree, but we can only say, "was not to do" or "was not doing", isn't it?

a Very good  tiny film! I think we should let more people  watch it and feel it! Being a driver, being a good driver is so important to selves and to the society. I was shocked by the number mentioned in the film. However, if everybody can take a lesson from it and take his or her full responsibilities, the situation will be changed, won't it?  past is past, we can't make up for it, but we can do it better avoiding some accidents.

People's life are moving forward, however, this kind of change brings more risk to people's life, if we don't have vehicles, at least we don't have so many people were killed under the wheel of vehicles. my opinion looks  Very silly, right? but that's my word from the bottom of my heart. We should enjoy our progress of life, at the same time we should cherish our lives and others'.

For the sake of  safety, please obey all the traffic regulations, please, please!!!!!!
