《詩經:關雎》

[介紹]
《詩經》中所謂「四始」之一，是描寫男子追求所愛女子的四言情歌。以「關關雎鳩，在河之洲」起興。採用回還復沓形式。表現男子的思慕之情和對愛情的執著追求。「參差」、「窈窕」、「關關」等雙聲、疊韻、迭字的運用，增強了語言的韻律，顯得自然、和諧。

[原文]
關關雎鳩，在河之洲。窈窕淑女，君子好逑。
參差荇菜，左右流之。窈窕淑女，寤寐求之。
求之不得，寤寐思服。悠哉悠哉。輾轉反側。
參差荇菜，左右采之。窈窕淑女，琴瑟友之。
參差荇菜，左右毛之。窈窕淑女。鐘鼓樂之。

Merrily the ospreys cry,
On the islet in the stream.
Gentle and graceful is the girl,
A fit wife for the gentleman.

Short and long the floating water plants,
Left and right you may pluck them.
Gentle and graceful is the girl,
Awake he longs for her and in his dreams.

When the courtship has failed,
Awake he thinks of her and in his dreams.
Filled with sorrowful thoughts,
He tosses about unable to sleep.

Short and long the floating water plants,
Left and right you may gather them.
Gentle and graceful is the girl,
He'd like to wed her, the Qin and Se playing.

Short and long the floating water plants,
Left and right you may collect them.
Gentle and graceful is the girl,
He'd like to marry her, bells and drums beating

Chewk-chewk the fish-hawk's whistle
Midstream from the sandy isle.
Lo, the maiden fair and dainty --
Fit for a young man fine and dandy.

Short and long the duckweeds grow,
Hands go picking to and fro.
Lo, the maiden dainty and fair --
Awake or asleep, seek her, seek her.

Seek her, seek her, still I miss her,
Asleep and awake, thinking of her.
Tossing and turning, no rest for me --
Far, oh, so far away is she.

Short and long the duckweeds grow,
Hands go plucking to and fro.
Lo, the maiden dainty and fair --
With qin and zither I'll befriend her.

Short and long the duckweeds grow,
Hands go pulling to and fro.

The fish-hawk is also known as the osprey, which is a hawk that feeds only on fish, and is found along lakes, rivers and seacoasts. "The characteristic cry of the osprey is a thin, shrill whistle." Microsoft Encarta.

【註釋】
⑴關雎： 篇名。它是從詩篇第一句中摘取來的。《詩經》的篇名都是這樣產生的。
⑵周南： 西周初期周公旦（公元前1063－前1057年）住東都洛邑（在今河南省洛陽市），統治東方諸侯。「周南」是周公統治下的南方詩歌。《關雎》是一首情歌，寫一個貴族男子愛上了一個采荇菜的姑娘，思慕她，追求她，想和她結婚。
⑶關關： 象聲詞，鳥的啼叫聲。
⑷好逑： 等於說「佳偶」。 逑： 配偶。
⑸寤： 醒著。 寐： 睡著了。
⑹思服： 思念。 服： 想。
⑺琴瑟友之： 彈琴鼓瑟來表達對她的愛慕。
⑻毛： 這裡是摸的意思。
