Boycott Olympics? OK, Let's Boycott Carrefour
Last few weeks, as the Beijing Olympics approaching, a feverish round of China-bashing reached a new high. Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, France, which long has been considered a friend by most of Chinese, stood at the front line of "protecting human rights", and "preserving the Tibetan culture". First, Nicholas Sarkozy, the new French president, vowed to boycott the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony, and then, the City of Paris crowned Dalai Lama as a "Honorable Citizen".
Very Well. Not long ago, the French was awarded contracts worth up 20 billion US dollars from the Chinese government, and they slapped the Chinese right in the face as soon as they left Beijing: "It is not the economy, stupid"! In the business world, one would never see a company publicly humiliates a customer right after he (she) places a huge order. But the French did just exactly that. Bravo! Hat off to the French, who have the cake and get to eat it too.
However, is this really a case of fighting for human rights and democracy? While the images of "illegal combatants" of Guantanamo Bay kneeing in front of the US military police are still fresh in people's minds, the media in the west shy away from this "hot potato" issue. Do these "prisoned first, no question asked later" detainees have rights? Those western politicians couldn't care less. March 20, 2008, is the 5 year anniversary of Iraq War, which has never been approved by the United Nations, and has caused the death of millions of innocent Iraqis. Have the "Reporters Without Borders", and Ms. Mia Farrow minced a word about this act of barbaric killing? Of course not. They have better things to do, like attacking the torch bearer during the Olympic Torch Relay, and boycotting the first ever Olympic Games held by a developing country, which is a very significant event in the Olympic or even the world history.
We, the Chinese people, have an expression, "fight teeth with teeth, fight blood with blood". Don't worry, our western friends; we are not going to wage a bloody war. It is only the Olympic Games anyway. No violence, please. But we will fight as promised, for without returning a fist, we will be like turning another side of our face to the China-bashers after being slapped in the other. So take notice: we will declare the "War of Horror" - a war that will make the CEOs of businesses supporting those special interest groups wake up screaming at the middle of night. The main tactic of the war is to boycott the products or services of these companies, and unfortunately, the French supper market chain Carrefour has become our first target.
Some might argue: why mix business with politics? We would say: if business is to be separated from politics, like it supposed to be, then why did they mix sports with politics? If Carrefour become the victim of collateral damage of the "War of Horror", then so be it. The Beijing Olympics has already suffered the collateral damage of China-bashing politics. Has anyone in the western power circle listened to the appeal of thousands of athletes to keep Olympics purely a celebrating sport event?
Others might say: majority of Carrefour's employees are Chinese, and a boycott will only hurt our own economy. We beg to differ. There are literally thousands of 100% Chinese supper-market companies are waiting to take the market share away from Carrefour, and if it goes under because of the boycott, these Chinese companies could easily absorb those former Carrefour employees. There will be no damage to our economy; on the contrary, the profits earned from local Chinese citizens and capital will stay inside China.
Why we chose Carrefour as the target? First, it is the proud sponsor of "Reporters Without Borders", a major force behind many China-bashing activities. In addition, it is a French company, and we know what the French president and the City of Paris have done to us. Here, we have to emphasize that we are not trying to interfere with their practice of "freedom", instead we just want to exercise our freedom of liking or disliking a company or a certain group of people. It is a fair game.
The goal of boycotting Carrefour, the first battle of our "War of Horror", is to force Carrefour, the French President's Office, and French Foreign Minister to cease their support of "Reporters Without Borders". Until them, the boycott will continue to the company's bankruptcy (the evidence proving our case is from the Reporters Without Borders website:http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=22503).
OK, brothers and sisters, fire up your computer and cell phones, and send this message:" Boycott Olympics? OK, Lets Boycott Carrefour". When you see your friends, relatives, or colleagues, don't say "hello", just say "Have you boycotted today?"
This is truely our "Weapon of Mass Destruction", a weapon that could completely destroyed our enemy's will and make us the winner of this "War of Horror". And the best part is that we don't need the approval from the United Nations!
Before we toast to pre-celebrate our victory, we would like to announce the next target - the top three advertisers of CNN. In this second battle, our objective is to force CNN's public apology for its defamation of Chinese government and the firing of Jack Cafferty for his discrimination of Chinese people. Cheers.
