the idea of relying on a particular course book
the idea of relying on a particular course book to improve english is quite mistaken. this will make your eyes only fixed on the content of the book you choose, and of course none of these books can encompass all the valuable information you may apply to. so the best way to learn english is to learn from real life.
for example, when you go to church, you must ask yourself what they are in english of everything you see or think of, such as Jusus Christ, Sunday mass, priest, prayer, parish, church spire, baptize, confirmation, confession, sin, redemption, anointe, and so on. some of the words listed above are in NCE, but many are not. for most chinese, they may know the meaning of these words when they are reading, but when they need to use them , they lose these words, not to say the frequently used expressions related to these words. by the way, i am not a religious person, but experience has taught me knowing these will help us well communicate with western people and increase our understanding about western culture.
in daily life, you must always try to reflect anything you see ,touch or eat in english. for example, my sink is clogged, i must buy a plunger in dollar shop; if it's not working, i must call a plumber to fix it; that man took a J-walk, it's too dangerous; wow, the steet girl is so hot, i can not resist her, but what will happen if i cheat on my wife?
i mean when you see a prostitude, you may also think of STD (sexually transmitted diseases), when you think of STD, you may think of HIV carrier, oral sex, anal sex, etc. are these in NEC or in 《走遍美國》? i doubt about it. when you want to use them, they are not there.
so what's the use of reading "pumas are large cat like animals which are found in America...." ten times a day? |
