需要先確定診斷是正確
I am not sure that his doctor did tissue biopsy or not from that solid mass during bronchoscope, if yes, you need to find qualified pathologist to read the slide and establish right diagnosis (cancer or not).
From your article, looks like that the doctor only did brush, which only give a few cells released from the mass, it is difficult for regular pathologist to exam this type the cells and give him correct diagnosis, especially, your step dad is smoker, with recurrent bronchitis and history of TB. He probably need repeat bronchoscope to get tissue biopsy ( get small piece of tissue for mass) or find good Cytopatholigist to exam the cells (from previous bronchoscope with brush).
If your dad is unlucky, the diagnosis is cancer then there are two types of lung cancer:
1. small cell cancer of lung (scca) which have better response rate with chemotherapy
2. non small cell cancer of lung (nscca), the treatment is limited, surgery if early stage, young patient with relative healthy history before this. nscca is less respond to chemotherapy and radiation |
