平權會多倫多分會

親愛的朋友

平權會多倫多分會將於近日 舉辦一個旨在提升華裔環保意識以及鼓勵華裔 區參與本地環保活動的大型公眾活動。

一直以來，新移民被認為對環保事務不感興趣。為澄清這個事實並鼓勵華人社區更多個人和家庭參與到當地的環境保護與管理以及娛樂活動之中，在  Metcalf 基金會的支持下，平權會多倫多分會向華人社區招募了 25名環保大使，就 環境保護、城市 和 近郊農業以及環保管理等話題展開學習和 探討。來自12個不同機構和部門的約20名環保工作者為大使們提供了專題講座和實地考察機會，本地 以環保為主旨的中文周報 《綠色生活》 以合作者的身份連續刊登了由環保大使們編撰的約40份稿件。激情滿懷的大使們 希望能夠和社區 一起，參與到更多本地環保、協管和 娛樂活動之中 。

目前華裔環保大使們正在籌備一個名為 「環保-華裔在行動」的 大型公眾活動。這個活動將於2012年10月13日星期六下午12:30點至5點，在世嘉堡議會廳舉辦。

除了邀請省市各級環保代表參加活動外，本地著名專業人士將就氣候變遷、土地保護和社區發展兩個話題展開專題演講。環保大使們還在會上將發出倡議，呼籲華裔社區更多關注和參與本地環保活動，並將藉此成立一個新型華裔環保組織，以尋求環保活動的可持續發展。為加強相互間了解，來自各環保機構的嘉賓們稍後還將在環保信息專題小組和環保活動參與小組裡與到會的人士展開對話，介紹有關環保和機構信息，探討社區如何有效參與環保的相關話題。活動的開始和後半部分，將為來賓放映環保記錄片《路在前方：第一次綠色長征》，描述國內青年展開環保事業的有關情況。

Chinese Canadians for the Environment - Action Matters
Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (CCNCTO) is holding a public event to engage Toronto』s Chinese communities to improve environmental awareness and increase participation in local environmental conservation activities.  There is a common perception that new immigrants are not interested in environmental issues.  To address the issue, CCNCTO created the Environmental Ambassadors (EAs) program with support from Metcalf Foundation.  Twenty-five volunteers were recruited as EAs from the Chinese community and received training through seminars and field studies by twenty subject matter experts from twelve environmental organizations/agencies.  Over forty articles have since been written by the EAs and published through a local environmental weekly magazine.  The Environmental Ambassadors are ready to engage the Chinese community in local environmental conservation, stewardship and recreational activities.

The Environmental Ambassadors are organizing an event titled 「Chinese Canadians for the Environment - Action Matters」 to be held at Scarborough Civic Centre (Council Chamber) on Saturday, October 13th, 2012 from 12:30:00pm to 5:00pm.  The community event is expected to attract upwards of 150 people.

Key events include speeches by guest experts on the subject of climate change and Chinese communities, the Environmental Ambassadors』 call to action, and the launch of the Chinese Canadian Environmental Association (CCEA).  The audience are encouraged to participate in two breakout sessions: 1) a discussion panel where guest experts share their knowledge and answers questions from the audience, and 2) informal small group discussions where participants can get involved and share ideas on how to engage the Chinese community for the environment.  An environmental documentary film 「The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March」, which told the journey of China』s young environmental campaigners, will be screened at the beginning and during the last part of the event.
