為什麼出生在美國，英國的華裔也被叫chinese

為什麼出生在美國的英國後裔，不被叫english?
愛爾蘭人後裔不被叫irish?
既然都是出生在美國，為什麼還有這樣的區別？
到底什麼樣的人算大家印象中的正宗美國人？
有高人能給講解下沒？

還是英美系的白人——盎格魯薩克遜人，是被所謂主流美國社會認為的美國人。

其他都屬他們眼中的少數族裔。

I think you are talking about racial and ethnic minorities.

My understanding and observation is that some minorities are viewed as 'Americans with ethnic background', such as Jewish Americans, African Americans and European Americans. However, Asian Americans, Latino Americans and Arabic Americans, due to their shorter integration history, are still viewed as somewhat 'foreign' and will be called Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Mexican... for a few more generations. It is only fair since it took other ethnic groups several generations to rid of their 'marking' as well.

True, skin color is a major factor but African Americans looks totally different from pure Africans and black Americans don't really have a 'home country', they are Americans by default.
