Concordia university, for example,  is ranking at around 9th in the second level in Canada, but its ranking in the world (for example, based on London Finanace) is placed at the ranking before that of No.1 university in China. You must say something based on data and evidence. Don't use your imagination as an associate professor in Physics !

固執己見是錯的，輕信別人也是錯的。
其實，樓主真有本事的話，申請一個visiting scholar，去實地實地考察一下不就行了，如果你還相信你的眼睛的話。

如果現在的年紀，眼睛里還是只有房子車子，出來只是為了換更大的房子車子，那倒是不必折騰了，十有八九未必如願。當然，如果還年輕的，三十以下，沒有孩子，沒有負擔，手頭有一定物質積蓄，人又特別聰明有鬥志的，也未知。
如果你的眼睛里還有更多其它的東西，你想經歷更多未知的世界，有了人生本來就是一種經歷的豁達，出來未嘗不是一件好事。其實何必那麼執著於成敗呢？標籤是別人貼上去的，自己的感受才最重要。
但是如果決定要出來了，至少頭5年是要只問耕耘，不問收穫的。這種落差，不一定每個人能受得了。即使是物質條件有保障的人，也時時要不忘調侃自己「體驗生活」。
所以，如果你是重精神的人，可以考慮出來，但如果是重物質的，還是國內比較穩妥和平順。

關於教育:國內極其頂尖的大學不算,看看一般大學里的教授們,有多少是混的?何詐麻之流的怎麼不對自己搞學術打假?相比之下就發現國外老師水平更高些,教學條件也更好些,你要想學,客觀的條件都具備了,還不夠嗎?

不過在國內過得很好的是得慎重.俺是在國內混不好,搞不了那套,才在國外晃蕩,現在稍微穩定了,再到加拿大重新開始,俺心裡也犯核計,不過既然當初決定了,還是要去.

Also please don't blowing yourself so high as if the others are all **. For me, i have been an associate professor in INFN of Italy for about 2 years so i know something about how to get a job in the West. It is not all depending on your ability and experience--sometimes luck and good relationship play a more important role.

I know maybe i am not as intelligent as you  and not as lucky, that is why i am asking for the common situation--whether a normal associate professor can find a job here.-what is their life--that is what i care about.

《泰晤士報》評出世界大學排名

　　據中國日報報道關於世界一流大學的排名一直在高等教育界存在很多爭論。最近，已經連續20年為世界大學排座次的《泰晤士高等教育增刊》(THES)推出最新一期榜單，由哈佛大學掛帥的美歐名校的強勢地位仍不可動搖，同時，澳、亞兩洲綜合性大學的上升勢頭也銳不可當，中國北京
大學赫然位列第17名。

　　前10強美國佔7席

　　據《泰晤士報》11月4日報道，THES向88個國家的1300名大學教師展開了調查，請他們列出心目中最好的教育機構。同時，排名還參照另外四項指標：教師學術研究成果被引用數量、師生比率、外國留學生比例和具有國際聲望的學者數量。

　　根據綜合積分，排在前10位的大學，美國佔了7家，哈佛大學、麻省理工學院和加利福尼亞大學伯克利分校包攬了前3名，而英國牛津大學和劍橋大學分別排在6、7位。

　　雖然被歐美名校重重包圍，但澳洲和亞洲幾所大學在榜上的表現還是讓人眼前一亮。澳大利亞有6所大學進入了前50名。而最出人意料的要數中國北京大學，它排在第17名。

加拿大第39屆聯邦議會選舉1月23日舉行，19名華裔候選人分別代表自由黨、保守黨和新民主黨等各主要黨派，參與角逐聯邦議員席位。這是自1957年鄭天華成為第一位華裔議員以來，華裔候選人參選人數最多的一次。近年來華裔踴躍參政折射出加拿大華人社會已悄然發生重大變化。

教授在接受新華社記者採訪時說，這麼多華人踴躍參加聯邦大選，這對老一輩華人來說是不可思議的事情。

　　華人移民在加拿大曾有非常沉重和辛酸的一頁。從1858年開始，華人進入加拿大參與修建連接加東西海岸的太平洋鐵路。然而，1885年太平洋鐵路竣工后，加拿大聯邦政府即以重稅限制對鐵路建設做出重要貢獻的華工及其家屬入境，並於1885年7月20日通過《華人入境條例》。

　　從1886年開始，每個華人入境必須繳納50加元「人頭稅」；1900年7月18日，又將「人頭稅」增至100加元；1903年7月10日，再次調升至500加元。這筆錢相當於當時一個工人兩年的工資。

　　1885年至1923年間，約有8.1萬人支付了這一稅款，給加拿大政府帶來了2300萬加元（1932萬美元）收入。

　　為進一步限制華人入境，加聯邦政府又在1923年6月30日通過禁止華人入境的《排華法案》，法案1924年1月1日生效，1947年才予廢止。

　　直至20世紀中葉，老一輩華人移民始終被視為低人一等，根本沒有政治地位，利益不能受到法律保護。在此期間，還頻繁發生排華事件。直至1949年之前，華人連最基本的投票權都被剝奪，更談不上被選舉權。從20世紀50年代開始，加拿大帶有排華性質的移民法令被廢除，歧視性的人頭稅也被取消，華人才被授予投票權。

　　姜聞然指出，近年來，加拿大華人參政逐漸變得踴躍起來，首要原因是，中國國際地位的不斷提升提高了整個華人群體在加拿大社會的地位，受到主流社會的關注和重視。

　　第二，與老一輩相比，新一代華人經濟條件、教育水平都比較高，中產階級民主參政意識比較強。

　　第三，新一代華人從事的工作也多在一些高端領域，在主流社會裡面的影響逐漸增強。

　　第四，華人以前固守在自己小圈子裡的現象也大有改變。新一代華人在語言方面沒有障礙，更容易同主流社會打成一片，這是參政議政不可或缺的條件之一。

　　姜教授指出，正是因為華人社會出現了上述幾個重要變化，平反「人頭稅」問題才會成為牽動本屆大選的一個議題。如果本屆大選中華裔候選人能夠取得新的突破，將進一步鼓勵和吸引更多新一代的華人參政議政，投身到維護本族裔權益以及整個加拿大社會公平的事業中去。

　　根據加拿大選舉委員會公布的材料，本次參選的華裔候選人共有10男9女，其中安大略省6人、魁北克省3人、馬尼托巴省1人、薩斯喀徹溫省1人、阿爾伯塔省3人、不列顛哥倫比亞省4人、育空地區1人。

　　在2004年選舉中，全加共有18名華裔候選人參選，最後來自不列顛哥倫比亞省的自由黨成員陳卓愉，以及分別來自安大略省和馬尼托巴省的保守黨成員庄文浩和麥鼎鴻成功當選。

　　在本屆大選中，比較有實力的華裔候選人除上述三位競選連任外，還有來自多倫多的新民主黨成員、新民主黨主席傑克

Please look at the standard of comparisons by THES. Beijing University is listed at the top university based on what? mostly because of Peer Review and Recruiter (total 50% almost all peer for evaluating beijing university and all recruiter for student of beijing university are in China, it is common knowledge, right).[/COLOR] Currently, it is a fact to find a job easier in china than any other country in the world. If you look at the "citation" for Beijing. it is ZERO 0 (indicating  academic level). [/COLOR] What a shame! But if you look at Harvard is 57 and California is 100!

Hi, my friend, I don't know the details of the standard and how comes the weights--Because it is done by the powerful newspaper and we have no need to doubt it. --Otherwise we have no rules to evaluate the university.

By the way, talking about the lowest scores Beijng University get:

(1) It is very clear that few foreigners know the university even for them to know some city named Beijing and Shanghai--so it is no doubt that few will send their children to China;
(2) As we all know, how hard it is for the chinese students to get a visa to USA, so we have less chances to go to the first ranking university---even the exchange students.

I really don't know how comes "Zero" and really doubt it(hehe, maybe no need)~~--i mean although the academic level of Beijing is not so high --but it can surely make some SCI articles and can be cited --that means not "Zero";

The only interpretation may be that Beijng University play a very high role in the study of Chinese Culture and history which is not collected in the World Popular Articles-say, SCI, of course.  However, if you study European Culture and history,even American Culture and history, your article will surely be accepted because they founded the SCI papers and the editors are all non-chinese.

BTW, even in Canadian second-level universities, the academic environment is better than that of No.1 University in China and the academic level is higher than that of No.1 University in China. And the most important, your child will have a happy childhood with freedom and democracy.

citation is 0 means nobody has cited the paper in the same field (if Chinese culture then Chinese culture) (not collected by some magzine) [/COLOR] (maybe all trash?) published by Beijing university's scholars.

at least somebody's paper in second level university in Canada has been cited by other peers in the same academic field.
well just give you some idea. University of Montreal is not top university in Canada. Its citation score is still 13.

peer review score is determined by the peer's country and how many top universities existing in the country. If China has more world level universities (for example, 50 or more world level universities, compared to th epopulation, China should have), the score for Beijing may be much lower than this.
