詞典中值得商榷之處

English words for 草原
An Chinese-English dictionary lists these words: campo grass grassland plain veld veldt
While  I do not know enough to judge this list, I like to express my opinion.
Is grass 草原? I wouldn't use it for 草原. Grassland for 草原? Yes.  But grass? I doubt about it.
Is plain 草原?  According to an English-Chinese dictionary, plain is 平原, 草原. But, for all these years, I have never seen a case in which plain means 草原 when I read or listen to English.  
According to the billingual version of American Heritage Dictionary, plain is "An extensive, level, usually treeless area of land. 平原：一片廣闊的、水平的且通常無樹的土地".  The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language did not mention 草原 here.

English words for 草原

Grassland
A grassland is a generally open and continuous, fairly flat area of grass, such as Inner Mongolian Grassland.

Steppes  

An English-Chinese dictionary says it 特指西伯利亞一帶沒有樹木的大草原.
But the billingual version of American Heritage Dictionary provides a broader defination:
A vast semiarid grass-covered plain, as found in southeast Europe, Siberia, and central North America.
大草原：一片半乾燥的大草原，如在東南歐洲、西伯利亞或中北美洲的.
The word, Steppes, is used in some song titles, such as Chyi's Whispering Steppes (Lyrics by Chyi ).  It refers to Tibetan 草原.

Prairie

Prairie refers to an area of land in North America of low topographic relief that principally supports grasses and herbs, with few trees, and is generally of a mesic (moderate or temperate) climate. Most of the Great Plains, including the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa, and much of Missouri and Minnesota, is considered prairie. French explorers called these areas prairie, from the French word for "meadow".

How about meadowland?
I used to think it is 草地. But a 草原-related Russian song has an English title: Meadowland.
《美國傳統詞典》on meadowland:
A tract of land having the characteristics of or used for a meadow.
草地，牧場：有草地特點或用作草地的一片土地

PK, a popular new term in Chinese, often means "compete with someone".  The title of a meaningful and funny song is a case in point:

The Chinese saying, 盡信書則不如無書, should not been applied to dictionaries.  It is always better having a dictionary than not to.
Another saying, 不可不信，不可盡信，however, works here.
