The problem with that is no one in America is guaranteed a job, you have to be picked. UBI is guaranteed to everyone and is a more sound solution. No one is excluded!

Bernie Sanders will guarantee a job to everyone, much better than this UBI thing. And then we can share the work that is needed. Yang wants a failed system to distribute work.

Why can』t we have both? A jobs guarantee and UBI.

Economics professor Pavlina Tcherneva actually DOES have a realistic, workable living wage Job Guarantee plan that runs counter-cyclical so that it never creates more or less jobs than what are needed, but NOBODY who is involuntarily unemployed and poor gets left out. This is the plan Bernie Sanders favors.

UBI pushers like Yang all claim those whose who've been pushed out of the economy (many have already been left jobless and unable to get new employment due to age discrimination - on top of gender and race discrimination) for whom the sub-poverty $1,000/mo UBI isn't enough can always "choose to work" if they need more money.  But that's bullshit because the ONLY people who truly are free to choose whether or not to work are the rich. 

The ultimate choice in who gets a job and who doesn't rests 100% with the employers - NOT the person who desperately needs a job, but isn't getting hired (most often due to discrimination - for which the tech industry is notorious with its spoiled rich frat boy culture of self-entitlement and white male supremacy). 

Pavlina Tcherneva's Jobs Guarantee plan provides a livable income support (a living wage BI) for those who can't work (the old & the disabled) or for whom employment is not feasible (pregnant women, new moms, and caregivers of disabled and ill family members). Unlike Yang's stand-alone UBI plan, Pavlina Tcherneva's Jobs Guarantee plan offers a living wage level of a basic income to those for whom employment is not feasible while it ensures that those who WANT to work but who are members of the "last-hired, first-fired" cohort of traditionally marginalized people that always seem to get left out, CAN actually get a living wage job and make a good life for themselves. 

Yang's UBI not only fails to reduce or eliminate poverty, it also fails to eliminate job discrimination in tech. And it will breed smoldering, seething resentment from those who will be left with nothing but a shitty sub-poverty UBI with no chance of ever getting more and having a good life, towards the privileged elite employed few who get fat salaries that start out at the entry level of $150K/yr on average.

Where Yang's plan further fails on top of being too stingy in amount, is how it is funded: regressive taxes. VAT taxes ARE sales taxes, and those take a bigger bite out of a poor person's income than a rich person's. These tech giants that Yang is saying will be hit with the VAT tax will simply raise the prices for all their goods and services, which gets passed onto everyone else - including those least able to afford it. He wants to give poor involuntarily jobless people a sub-poverty UBI, then club us in the face with a regressive tax scheme to pay for it. And most of the people that are all ga-ga over Yang's neoliberal Trojan Horse of a UBI plan are either too stupid or self-centered (or both) to see that and I don't have the emotional capital to spend countless hours of MY time (for which I'm NOT getting paid) in trying to educate them on this shit when my nerves are already shot from the chronic stress of abject poverty due to lack of any income as a legally blind, chronically ill 52 yr old woman with no chance for a job, no money, no f***in' car anymore (it got repossessed), and on the verge of homelessness with my  76 yr old disabled husband and nowhere to go.

 

So humans working as paid slaves for other humans is your final solution?!! We already have that, with the exception of the rich get to pick their slaves. With your plan, they'll be lined up and waiting. This is planet Earth and her resources belong to all of us. We need to come up with a more equitable way to share them. I am 60 years old and a call center worker. We used to be able to make good money that now min. wage is what most companies offer. I took to youtube to learn a new skill to supplement my income and it's something I thoroughly enjoy doing. I can't make enough to off of it to support. myself as of yet. I work for some money addicted humans who see little value in me or what I do and they pay me accordingly. With Yang's plan, I can buy some equipment that will hopefully get me off of the plantation. Work is a human invention. Have you ever seen a monkey buy a banana or a spider buy a house. Yang's program while not perfect, is a great beginning. I don't know about you, but working construction rebuilding America's crumbling infrastructure is not appealing, OK!!

The problem with any "jobs" program is assuming that "work" will always be a necessary human function or that it is already one. We are entering an age of abundance where automation, robotics and A.I. will make most work unnecessary. So then what is the solution? This is planet Earth and her resources belong to us all. Finding an equitable way to share the resources is key. The idea of work is one way but there are others. In the natural world, have you ever seen a monkey buy a banana or a spider buy it's house?

No.. Politicians are all the same.  They say whatever possible to get elected and raise taxes on everyone.  Trump did it and Yang will probably be the same.  Most likely, any person with a job or income will most likely pay more under yang.  Why not  just give tax credits or raise the un employment payout to people who lost there jobs to tech?  Probably because that wouldn't involve an excuse to collect an excessive amount or taxes.    And on another note, there's been rumors of technology taking jobs for the last 300 years or since the first industrial revolution.. It hasn't happened.  It usually causes and era of abundance.  Unfortunately, his "data driven" job theory is from fear based opinions.

 

I believe he is familiar with abilities in higher conciosness levels and people relate with lower levels of societal stresses. I believe if our society was on the right track, fear and worries being diminished we would literally become more advanced and feel as if we where experiencing an evolutionary wake up. projecting prosperity for earth and finding that our human code is to save earth and help any life in our universe, in the future by correcting its code if seen fit, I'm thinking super advancements for humans and collective coexistence on earth.
