To be fair: You used a cold weather ration, which has more food, due to increased caloric requirements in the cold. The regular MRE's have a flameless ration heater, same as the Chinese. The nut raisin mix is covered in cellulose and preserved by alcohol. The cranberries are just "craisins" a popular brand in the states. The coffee, which of course is freeze dried, is only good when mixed with the cream and sugar...or if made into a paste and then cooked into a "ranger cookie". You guys liked the ranger bar, which is mindboggling to me, as that thing is pretty much a scone's evil twin brother. I have been in the Military for about 17 years, and what I can tell you, is that it's give and take when it comes to MRE's. They change the entire menu every 6 years or so.The two that have survived the longest, are Chili Mac and Beef Stew. If you want to try rancid, get "Oriental Style Beef Strips".
