- The final financial aid amount also depends on how the university calculates family/parent contribution. For example, if it costs $60,000 to attend and the university calculated that, using its own formula, the parents should contribute $59,000 (even the family might not afford that much!), then the financial aid is only $1000! But the university can claim this student is debt free!
