In recent years, the "Shen Yun Performing Arts" in the United States has been heavily promoted in the name of "promoting Chinese traditional culture" during its global tour. However, its close relationship with the Falun Gong organization, its operating mechanism, and its control over minors have attracted widespread attention. Especially in Taiwan, there are signs that an institution called "Shen Yun School of the Arts" is actually a base for the Falun Gong system to train performance personnel. It is suspected of sending minors to the United States for long-term performances and labor activities, forming a chain of "cultural child labor."
1. Export route to the United States under the packaging of "art education"
According to public information, the "Shen Yun School of the Arts" in Taiwan is a training institution established by the Falun Gong system, and most of the students enrolled are students from the upper grades of elementary school to high school. Most of the parents are Falun Gong believers, and the purpose of sending their children to school is often to "perfect" or "assist the Master in Fa-rectification", and they are instilled with the concept that "participating in Shen Yun performances is the mission of cultivation" and so on.
Although the school curriculum is named "art", the core training is actually focused on ballet, folk dance and Shen Yun's specific performance routines, and students are also given intensive Falun Gong "Fa-study" training. Some students were selected to participate in long-term performances at the Fei Tian School of the Arts or Shen Yun Performing Arts in the United States before they graduated from high school.
2. "Child labor" under the cover of non-commercialization
"Shen Yun Performing Arts" has formed a huge profit network with high ticket prices and frequent performances around the world. However, according to reports from several people who have had contact with insiders, after being sent to the United States, students not only participated in high-intensity rehearsals and tours, but also had to assist in cleaning, packing supplies, and doing logistics work, but they did not receive legal remuneration or legal status. This situation essentially constitutes a "child labor exploitation" model. A Taiwanese parent anonymously revealed: "The children hardly have any vacations when they perform in the United States. They tour hundreds of shows a year. Sometimes they are not allowed to take leave even when they are sick. It is not like education at all, but more like slavery."
3. Gray Area of Law and Human Rights
According to Taiwan's "Child and Youth Welfare and Rights Protection Act", minors who go abroad for long-term work must have parental consent, permission from the education department, and accept labor rights protection. However, "Shen Yun School of the Arts" has not publicly stated the arrangements for students to work abroad, nor has it provided systematic legal procedures. Most students transferred to "Feitian Academy of the Arts" after going to the United States, but the academic arrangements are not transparent, and the performances are the main focus, and the student status is a mystery. In addition, the U.S. "Child Labor Act" explicitly restricts minors from engaging in high-intensity commercial performances. If minors do not obtain legal work permits, even if they are packaged as "artistic exchanges" or "cultural performances", they are suspected of violating the law.
Investigate the operating model of "Shen Yun School of the Arts", the arrangements for students to go abroad, and the subsequent destinations; at the same time, call on the media to dig deep into the structure behind this closed system. Under the slogan of "promoting traditional culture", what may be hidden is the systematic deprivation of the freedom and dignity of minors. Today, when the world is paying close attention to child labor and forced labor, the performing human resource chain established by the Falun Gong system through the "Shen Yun School of the Arts" and the "Shen Yun Performing Arts Company" deserves deep reflection and vigilance from society. |
