Why Nobody Pets The Lion At The Zoo Poem by John Ciardi
The morning that the world began
The Lion growled a growl at Man.
And I suspect the Lion might
(If he'd been closer) have tried a bite.
I think that's as it ought to be
And not as it was taught to me.
I think the Lion has a right
To growl a growl and bite a bite.
And if the Lion bothered Adam,
He should have growled right back at 'im.
The way to treat a Lion right
Is growl for growl and bite for bite.
True, the Lion is better fit
For biting than for being bit.
But if you look him in the eye
You'll find the Lion's rather shy.
He really wants someone to pet him.
The trouble is: his teeth won't let him.
He has a heart of gold beneath
But the Lion just can't trust his teeth.

I'm super impressed with the lions' self-restraint. They were actually sitting down watching the guy.
What worked for the man -
1. Being calm, composed, not afraid
2. Never turning his back
3. Putting hands up (make him appear bigger)
Also, lions raised in captivity, well fed and familiar with humans around
I feel sorry for all 3 of them, but I'm really glad the man got out and made a recovery while the lions only got tranquilized and weren't killed or injured.
I laughed too hard at the part where the lion bit his leg and then backed up with his tongue out like "Oh, that tastes nasty."
I love how the lion at 2:00 is like "Bro.. are you for real?"
Beautiful he was able to get clean. My sympathies for whatever pain, trauma, or surroundings drove him to drug abuse. Glad for the humanity of those who worked to save him to give him a second chance.
0:35 That lion looking left and then right like, "Can we get security over here please? Can you believe this? Are y'all seeing this?"
Such unpredictable and dangerous creatures. I』m glad the lions made it out okay.
I love how the zookeeper said at 0:30 "This is amazing"
it's good to know that the man got the treatment he needed and that the lions were not harmed in this event.
Mental heath issues and addiction are terrible things.
It was an absolute miracle he survived.
Yeah, that Lion was taking a lot of risk he first looked at his wife asking Uhm what should I do? this is clearly a dangerous situation a man this unhinged can do a lot of damage to us.
he survived because he didn't try to run like a prey. Instead, he stood up on a rock to make himself taller without showing fear. Wich is why the lions stopped attacking him, because they didn't take him as a prey.
The lions eat well there. They don't need a crazy human with clothes on
That is one incredible story and quite surprised how the zoo staff handled it.
