Like most readers, I totally agree with the views of this article.
The core of this long-standing Tibetan problem is the continuous strong Western backing, including their general
public that constitute a substantial portion of global opinion, to Dalai Lama who, we must admit, is remarkably skillful in public relations. Deliberately disregarding the historical fact that Tibet has been a sovereign part of China since the
Yuan Dynasty some 800 years ago, the West is stubbornly obsessed with the misconception that Tibet is a
"separate" country that was "invaded by China" in 1959. With the help of their powerful Western media, they have
forcefully taken the "moral highground" with the unfortunate result that nowadays most people across the globe tend
to believe in them. This is indeed a huge challenge to us and the Chinese Government, a harsh reality.
We must tacfully convince the world by unfolding the historic facts, by an open attitude to our Tibetan compatriots and by a more subtle government administration in Tibet etc. Bashing words and emotional confrontation will produce no
positive result. If failing all these and should the danger of separation become imminent, we must stand firm and
defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs including using military means if necessary in
defiance to hypocritical foreign accusations. Losing face or losing the Olympics is really nothing compared to
permanently losing a big piece of our motherland with such utmost strategic importance. Let's be united! |
