A Career Beyond Your Dreams

A Career Beyond Your Dreams is a series of reflections by the author on his professional and personal career that went beyond, well beyond his expectations.
It started when in his youth, his family assigned him to be the Priest in the family. When he courageously and politely said no, he was given the alternative of becoming the Doctor in the family although his original dream was to be an agriculturist for his love of life and nature.
Little did he know that after receiving his M.D. degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, a series of unexpected events and opportunities, including a surprise selection to a coveted exclusive internship at Clark Air Force Base Hospital, people he worked with and for, led him to the United States, in the State of Michigan, at the University of Michigan. There, he received his urological education and fellowship training, academic advancements, and administrative & leadership development culminating to a full Professor title. He is an academic triple threat beneficiary, having been honored by his peers in his Urological Specialty of Urodynamics and Female Urology, honored as Medical Educator by the medical students and urology residents at the University of Michigan, recognized in Research by NIH through the MERIT Award and over 20 years of NIH funding, and recently, receiving the American Urological Association (AUA) Presidential Citation Award and the highest Alumni award by his Medical School Alma Mater.
He will analyze and place in its proper perspective the scientific and philosophical principles that got him his Honors, his promotion as Professor of Surgery/Urology at UM in Ann Arbor, his appointment as Chair of Urology and the First Peter and Florine Ministrelli Chair in urology and the uplifting of the Department of Urology at Beaumont into one of the top ranked departments in the country during his 22 year tenure as Chairman, his leadership role to several medical organizations including the Presidency of the North Central Section of the American Urological Association, and what led him to his current position as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Beaumont Health Care System, a 2 Billion operations.
Likewise, he will share his personal career with a wife of 41 years, 4 married children and a grandfather to 10 children.
