Conciousness and its "objects" are two aspects of one thing or one thing of two aspects .... they are distinctly different when "mind" is involved; but in "reality" ...
The distinction between consciousness and its object, if I am not mistaken, arises from the existence of a so-called "I" who is in fact "I" ness instead of an entity that has any substance.

God is a metaphor --- the traces of this "God-nature", " expansive Self that exists in all existence -- the "buddha-nature" -- all are just metaphors of the same thing.
I agree that God as an ever expansive self is equivalent to the "buddha-nature" or cosmic mind. But I suppose Christians would object to this idea by saying that God creates all while the cosmic mind in buddhism cannot possibly accomplish this great feat.
It is not easy for most people to understand the nonduality nature.... For practitioners of Christianity.. the complete surrender and acceptance to "God" -- this devotional "practice" has an effect to "forget" themselves as a "separate entity" and eventually "merging" to the "unknown God-nature" -- The establishment of "unconditional love - love your God and everyone like yourself" also has effects to break down the barrier of "selfness". This has similarity to the Mahayanic practice of "amitabha's promiseland"

The nondual nature of the self and the other is difficult to understand because westerners tend to stress the importance of the self as a unique being that is essentially different from the other.
Yes..I sort of realize that. It is hard for someone who happens to be raised in a society with a clear "black and white", "I" and "you" to appreciate the existence of such a neutral grey area. Even this nonduality may not be fully "comprehended" by many of us, as we usually understand this at best within our "intellectual" knowledge. This comic mind -- thinking everyone is coming from a similar "Self" has a danger to make the practitioner becoming more "egoistic" -- as if they probably think that now "they" have got the essence of this, and see the whole world part of "their cosmic mind" -- big illusion.

wow~But consciousness maybe consists of three levels:
The Basic level consciousness .Which is an awareness of the inner and outer world–awareness that one is perceiving and reacting to perceptual information .
The Second level consciousness .Which is the reflection on that of which one is aware and includes the manipulation of symbolic knowledge free from the constraints of real objects and present events
And the Top level consciousness .Which is self-awareness–awareness that one is conscious and capable of reflection .
