《無法控制的魔力》 第五部分
士兵的悲慘故事(2)
Dragons are also unconquerable in
battle. They have a strong set of scales
protecting the sides of their skin and
occasionally some scales on their backs.
The rest of their bodies are mostly
protected by thick green (or dark red in
the case of the Hammerdragons) skin.
The different breeds of dragon are:
Hammerdragons, Blue Anvils, Golden
Eyed Dragos, and Narrerdragons. There
are many more breeds, but they are closely
related or unimportant so I will not list them. Hammerdragons are slow
in flying and destructive in landing. Their claws can smash anything with
the power of the mightiest hammer.
Blue Anvils are not really blue, but a unique shade of green. No one
knows the origin of the name, but there is a hint that the Northern
Dwarves named the dragon in honor of their great smiths, who could
carve anything into any manner of shape or tool. Blue Anvils are
Hammerdragons』 tenth cousins, heavy but not nearly so destructive.
Golden-Eyed Dragons have, as you probably guessed, golden eyes.
Most dragons have purple, red, or black eyes. Dragos are extremely rare,
due to the fact that they have almost no scales to protect them.
Narrerdragons are very special and are never harmed by the rest of
the warring dragons. Why? Because Narrerdragons are special in the way
that they do not grow except at birth and for the first five years of life. By
then they reach their full height and width of six feet, length, and three
feet, width.
Well, now you know enough about dragons. Enjoy reading!

The Cavern of the Dragon
Long ago, in the great caverns of Gyraos, which was on the Western
side of the Great Forest, there lived a Dragon called Myaat. He was a
Narrerdragon, and lived with a young ragged girl who named herself
Miriam, having heard the name in The Land of Folk. Miriam had been
cast away from The Land of Folk due to her broken arm and supposed
ugliness. Myaat loved Miriam and treated her like his own daughter.
Miriam loved Myaat like a father. Nobody had ever rumpled her short,
crooked red hair lovingly as Myaat did. Nobody had ever smiled like
Myaat when Miriam showed him her rabbit-like teeth. Myaat even allowed
Miriam to ride him—the rarest thing a dragon ever allowed humans to do.
Often Miriam could be seen by the other dragons flying high above the
clouds, much to the dismay of the people who lived in The Land of Folk.
「It』s unfair,」 they whined and muttered. 「She』ll meet a bad end, she
will. If only we had kept her to work in the slums! Then she wouldn』t have
gotten what she hasn』t even worked for!」
On the day that Miriam turned twelve years old (although she did not
know it herself), Myaat became ill. Sick, in the dragon case, means
spurting smoke from nostrils and occasionally a loud cough or so. Miriam
stayed at Myaat』s side until Myaat shooed her away, quite weakly.
「My last hour has come,」 Myaat said mournfully (in dragon language,
which Miriam understood, of course). 「Go, child, and come back when I
give a cry.」 Miriam obeyed Myaat dutifully, although she was in tears as
she did so. She was worried that Myaat would be too weak to cry out to
her, and therefore she would not have a moment to talk with Myaat. But
Myaat scraped up his strength and cried for Miriam, who at once ran to
the cavern. |
