一封發給BBC的信, 也給兄弟們過過眼

The mess around Olympic torch relay, an event that is supposed to provide a platform for people to overcome differences and come together, turned out to be a circus display. Watching the news and interviews, you can feel a genuine sense of excitement and, perhaps, even enjoyment in a few quarters in London and Paris.

I am a Chinese, educated in England, living in Canada, a life-time anti-communist. I was deeply involved in the 1989 student movement. I've been to Tibet many many times and have a lot of Tibetan friends. For years I did research on Tibetan history, culture, religion. I was moved by the Dalai Lama. I consider myself a neutral.

Back in the 1980s, we used to admire the west and have huge trust in western media, only to realize, when it comes to news about China, they are anything but fair and factual. This is evidenced by almost universally negative coverage of a country with roughly 20% of man kind.

When was the last time you recall the BBC/CNN portrait anything positive about China? I』ve been collecting details about BBC』s China coverage since 1996 Olympics. Needless to say it』s 99% negative. What else?

Why the reporters and editors at BBC seem to so enjoy the bad news in China, at the same time completely ignore all the positive developments? Even when BBC could not avoid a good thing or two about China, BBC consistently stick a negative comment or doubt to it.

Stereotype? intellectually confused/inadequate? or fundamentally coherently evil nature/corner of human being?

I have to say BBC is a major contributor to my change in attitude. I thought throughout the years, these negative coverage reflected the dark side of minds and souls behind these shows, as much as we witness under the communist regime back home. In that sense, communist or democratic, does it matter? As far as journalism is concerned, if you are biased, you will never care about real truth. You will only care and select the pieces that fit into that corner of your mind.

I abandoned my hope long time ago.

Is it just a matter of professional conduct? It can be much worse than that.

Think about this scenario. If I heard a rumor and talked the neighbor on the right hand side to hate the one on the left side, they end up fighting, and perhaps killing each other. Then I suddenly found out the rumor was not true, it was fabricated. That』s precisely the role mass media is playing.

A massive role with gigantic influence, yet with 0 responsibility and accountability.

I have to say, to be fair to BBC, BBC is not alone in this business.

People in your office building may not care about voices like mine. That』s understandable, as historically, you people are not the ones who suffer the consequence of this kind of behavior. So you became spoiled and came to believe it』s OK to do it that way. You people are miles ahead of the rest of people on earth anyway, let them choke in the dust behind.

It was the case, it』s still the case, but it will not go without coming back to haunt you in future.

We witnessed the outburst of collective madness in Nazi Germany, and during Cultural Revolution in China. We know what it is all about. I see the same pattern happening among the pro-Tibetan activists and their western supporters: fabricated information, exaggerated evidence, self-serving agenda, mobilizing uninformed mass, violent actions, and all in the name of GOOD and RIGHTEOUSNESS.

I know it』s not politically correct to denounce the Free Tibetan movement.

I came cross a brilliant debate on Tibetan issues by an Aussie teacher, M.A.Jones, very factual and logical. If you care to explore facts before going to the street and accuse people of being murderer, I recommend you to:
1. collect facts and evidence about Tibet and China. A good starting point is Mr Jones forum at:

2. Travel to that part of the world and live there for a few week, the longer the better. Listen to what people have to say there, observe their lives with your own eyes, then draw your conclusion.

While I was writing this message, my friend said why bother, they won』t give a damn anyway. I thought I would still give it a try. Who knows, maybe there are still a few cool heads out there in the western hemisphere. Maybe there are still a few healthy minds amidst this pandemic of collective madness.

As a final note, this is for those who decide to carry on their way to demonize China without caring to get facts and truth, yes, indeed, China is embarrassed, we are hurt. So what? Have the pro-Tibetan activists and those behind them gained anything? NOPE. absolutely ZERO, and NEVER will!!! Their behavior only served to convince people like me to side against them. Be it exchange of messages like this, demonstration on the street, or any other ways they choose or we choose. We are there for the game.
