try "民主" in africa: bloody wars among "parties", corruptions are typical characteristics of africa "民主". of course those are "民主" countries since most of them had elections under the supervisions of the old masters.
the best argument i heard was "those have nothing to do with democracy".
but a simple, undeniable fact is that the elections didn't change that; in most of cases, the situation getting worse.
no, i didn't say 民主不好. what is 民主? 民主==elections? obviously not.
in some perspectives, china is far more 民主 than a lot of so-called 民主 countries.
as far as i see it, china is on the way to its 民主 society, just walks its own way.
