不同的學會有其不同的性質及不同的參加目的.
Mission / Goals
AMERICAN NEUROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION
MISSION AND GOALS STATEMENT
Our Mission
The American Neurological Association is a professional society of academic neurologists and neuroscientists devoted to advancing the goals of academic neurology; to training and educating neurologists and other physicians in the neurologic sciences; and to expanding both our understanding of diseases of the nervous system and our ability to treat them.
Our Goals
1. To disseminate knowledge about the nervous system and its diseases by:
Presenting new scientific basic and clinical information at an annual meeting
Publishing a scientific journal
Formulating and promoting high standards of neurologic practice
2. To promote research into the causes and treatment of diseases of the nervous system by:
Attracting promising physicians into academic neurology and supporting their development
Advocating financial support from government, industry and individuals for research on the nervous system and its disorders
3. To formulate and promote policies and actions which will support the goals of academic neurology by:
Providing a unified voice for academic neurology
Setting guidelines and assuring excellence in programs that train and educate physicians in neurology
Raising the standard of neurologic training of all physicians

A Growing Field
Neuroscience barely existed as a separate discipline in 1969.
The neuroscience field now has over 300 training programs and is considered one of the most exciting areas in biomedical research.
About the Society for Neuroscience
The Society for Neuroscience (SfN) is a nonprofit membership organization of scientists and physicians who study the brain and nervous system.
Since inception in 1969, the Society has grown from 500 members to over 38,000. Today, SfN is the world's largest organization of scientists and physicians devoted to advancing understanding of the brain and nervous system.

The Society at Work
The Society's primary goal is to promote the exchange of information among researchers. To meet this goal, SfN:
Publishes the scholarly journal, The Journal of Neuroscience
Holds an annual meeting each fall attracting thousands of attendees from around the globe
SfN is also devoted to education, including:
Latest advances in brain research
Raising awareness of the need to make neuroscience research a funding priority
The Society produces a variety of publications and works closely with other scientific societies, disease advocacy organizations, and NIH.
SfN relies on 117 local chapters for grassroots representation of the neuroscience community. Across the globe, chapters hold scientific lectures and other activities to help advance neuroscience research and education.
