On a camping trip recently a Christian friend made what I consider a truly stupid statement, but a typical one for many Christians. We were setting up a campsite and there was a good sized, flat rock to set the camp stove on. 'S' made the statement that "God provided us a nice place for out camp stove." I didn't say anything since S is a really nice guy and I know he meant no ill, or stupidity.
Still the comment rankled me. It was so utterly silly and self-centered. And it leads any thinking being to consider how anyone thinks the supreme being is finding camp sites for fat-ass Americans and not bothering to find food and shelter at all for so many people.
I'm just wondering if my negative reaction to the statement was merited (albeit that I didn't say anything out loud), or not. And while I'm at it, is there any place for saying anything when people make such self-centered, idiotic statements, even if made without malice.
