Biblical Teaching on Redemption

The redemption is the result of ransom paid and to redeem is to pay ransom wiht desire to rescue the involved from the bondage.

Redemption is the action of God and we are the result of God's redemptive action. Praise to our Lord!

Exodus 6:6
"Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ' I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

Exodus 12:23
[ A Memorial of Redemption ] "For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

Exodus 13:13
"But every first offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.

Exodus 13:15
'It came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the LORD killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the LORD the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.'

Exodus 21:30
"If a ransom is demanded of him, then he shall give for the redemption of his life whatever is demanded of him.

" You shall redeem with a lamb the first offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck You shall redeem all the firstborn of your sons None shall appear before Me empty-handed.

[ The Law of Redemption ] 'The land, moreover, shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are but aliens and sojourners with Me.

'Thus for every piece of your property, you are to provide for the redemption of the land.

'Or in case a man has no kinsman, but so recovers his means as to find sufficient for its redemption,

'Likewise, if a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then his redemption right

'The houses of the villages, however, which have no surrounding wall shall be considered as open fields; they have redemption rights and revert in the jubilee.

'As for cities of the Levites, the Levites have a permanent right of redemption for the houses of the cities which are their possession.

then he shall have redemption right after he has been sold. One of his brothers may redeem him,

or his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or one of his blood relatives from his family may redeem him; or if he prospers, he may redeem himself.

'If there are still many years, he shall refund part of his purchase price in proportion to them for his own redemption;

and if few years remain until the year of jubilee, he shall so calculate with him. In proportion to his years he is to refund the amount for his redemption.

'But if he should ever wish to redeem it, then he shall add one-fifth of it to your valuation.

'Yet if the one who consecrates it should wish to redeem his house, then he shall add one-fifth of your valuation price to it, so that it may be his.

'If the one who consecrates it should ever wish to redeem the field, then he shall add one-fifth of your valuation price to it, so that it may pass to him.
