Thousands of Chinese have rallied through Melbourne and Sydney, calling for unity between China and Tibet.
Melbourne's Chinese community is rallying behind their government, and calling for peace in the lead up to the Beijing Games.
'What we are protesting is we're against any violence, any violence at all and we're promoting a peaceful games,' said protestor Arthur Lai.
More than four thousand Chinese converged on the Melbourne State Library, rejecting international criticism of China's handling of violent uprisings in Tibet.
'It's the separatists who actually caused this violence and the Chinese government only reacted to it,' said another protestor, Julio Liu.
In Sydney around 1000 people marched, bringing city traffic to a standstill.
Protesters say they simply want the world to hear both sides of the story, as the spotlight turn to China in the lead up to Games in August.
However, Melbourne's Tibetan community has dismissed the protests as Chinese propaganda.
After violent demonstrations in London and Paris the Olympic torch relay arrived in Tanzania.
The Federal Government is urging pro-Tibetan activisits not to disrupt the relay when it travels through Canberra on April 24th. |
