Dear Mr. Duffy and the CTV News Team:
During your recent interview with the Chinese Ambassador on March 24th on the issue of Tibet riot, you have mistakenly used the video clip which shows Nepal police force breaking up the Tibetan demonstrators. By doing that, you have mislead your audience into the false belief that the Chinese police were using excessive force against peaceful demonstrations.
From the very beginning, it was clear that the Tibet riot was criminal violence, and the Chinese government has every legal responsibility to maintain social order and bring criminals under justice.
Yet regrettably, the western media put their ignorance of facts and wrongful belief of Chinese society above principal of law, and the public in the west has been subjected to abundant rumors and false information.
The similar "mistakes" or tactics have been denounced by the Asian media and Chinese internet users. CNN was forced to give explanation on Mar 21 and the Germany RTL Television apologize on Mar 23.
So it is appalling that you continue to use this video clip on the Mar 24 interview. Whether it is a mistake or on purpose, it has done much damage to the integrity of your station, as well as the reputation of the Chinese government.
In any case, you owe an apology to your audience and the Chinese Ambassador.
Sincerely,
XXX
