I walk outside at a cloudy night, feel the ship rocking back and forth, hear waves hitting on the steel bulkhead, mist of ocean water washes my face, yet I can't see a thing.
I embrace darkness, it doesn't scare me. What does is in fact my knowledge of the ocean. Becuase I know if I step outside into the complete darkness, I won't be able to see the 20ft waves coming. One of those waves can easily take me down into the raging ocean and on my way to the road of no return.
