　　 With society developing and China joining the WTO, we witness an increasing number of scientific and technological developments. This issue has become a hot-button issue, and is generating a lot of concerns among students, teachers, parents and everybody else in our society. The reasons for that are many.
　　 Firstly, this is another case of a coin has two sides. Secondly, we all want to live better lives and have a bright/brighter future. Last but not least, it』s all the fault of the Japanese, so let us stage a flag burning protest right after this exam.
　　 On the other hand, some people say that』s not true. They think it』s just the opposite. But I don』t agree with them.
　　 What can be done about it? Our government must pass new legislations to deal with it. Our police must be more vigilant in watching out for offenders. We must all work a lot harder, for that will bring us all a brighter future.
　　 Base on the reasons above, I am in favour of the latter view. So let us all work hard, have faith in the government, and that will make finding jobs easier and we will all have a brighter future.

cheating !

no cheating. it IS a model essay in the sense that it is true English with all idiomatic expressions and is flawless in grammar. i have seen a professor of English from a Chinese university who in trying to correct others' CHINGLISH wrote the following: [I]No one deny it. It is certain that no one is perfect and any critical opinion will be well appreciated[/I]. can you see what problems he has got?

This is supposed to be a joke. Get it?
It is a parody of all those 必背範文 found in many Chinese Learn-English sites or materials given out by certain tutorial schools. It is a composite of the essays student wrote (in a New Oriental School site), with the comments from teacher and fellow students that they are excellent because they "followed the exact instruction of the teacher." Mistakes such as "case of coin has two sides" are exact reproductions from those essays.

That said, I must say that upon reflection I was amazed that this does work for many situations, especially for those inane topics that show up in CET4/6 exams. Pick one and try it and you will see that you can modify this enough to get you through an exam.
  The instructions that come with those CET writing exams force the students to write in this form. Had they been just topics with no specific instructions, students would be able to have more room for creative writing.

這是諷刺公式化作文的流弊。文上用了大量的 "作文必用句子」， 「n 級考試作文加分句子」等等。This is not exactly the fault of those who encourage their students to write like that, but the fault of the system. Chinese students, no matter whether they need to use it or not, are required to pass these tests to get their degrees. Many will try to pass the composition part of the test in the easiest way possible. It is a matter of supply and demand. There is a demand for quick fixes, so there are people out there supplying them.
   What good is a composition if the imagination and creativity part has been taken out of it? But that's precisely what is happening. Chances are many students writing the CET exams seldom want to deviate from the 3 line instructions for fear that any non-conformity will cause them marks. Having only 30 minutes to come up with something sensible, and writing it down in a second language, is another deterrent  to creativity. Only the very brave or  foodhardy will attempt doing something really different. So what is the quickest way? Memorize as many "standard sentences" as possible and throw them together in the hope that it will help.

   Let me give you an example. How many times have you come across "vividly depicted in the picture" in student essays? Go to http://www.google.com  and enter the search words, with the quotes, "vividly depicted in the picture", and see what you come up with? Find any non-Chinese sources? I didn't. May be you have better luck.  Now pick one that mention 12 samples and look at it, and see how many of the samples have the same "vividly depicted in the picture"? (I don't know if the obvious mistakes in those samples are due to transcription error or came with the original sample, but few people seem to have notice them, and keep on transcribing it to their learning web sites without correcting them first.)
