After Step 1, Step 2 and CSA, you have to take Step 3. The time when you can take Step 3 is different in different states. During the residency training you have to take an in-service exam which is another national exam to test your knowledge in the field you are trained. Also, your clinical performence will be evaluated by a committee. A few residents may be kicked out if their performence is not satisfied by the committee.
After you finished 3-4 year training, you have to pass a national board exam which is held by the national board of your specialty. This exam may include an oral exam which is depends on the specialties. After you pass all of these exams, you can relax for a few years, since most boards need you take re-certification exam every 10 years. |
