For notebook? same thing. Common one you can upgrade memory, HD easily but dell---especially business model(some one here said 高端)---another nightmare!
memory, hd, and pcmcia card are pretty much the only three things that a user can change with a notebook except gaming notebook.
For regular or said 90% of users, they have to rely on services. Even though there are many geeks out there, but the fact is when a notebook goes wrong, it is much harder to find replacement parts to fix it than desktop.
The business model that I mentioned above usually comes with 3 year world wide warranty which mostlikely keeps a regular user in good hand than wondering if his/her handy friend actually knows what he/she is doing. For business model, usually their customer service 's turn around time is much shorter. My experience with Compaq/HP is less than 36 hr including the time on road with 0 spending on shipping. My evo has been with me for four and half years and still runing like charm except some problems with the modem port, which I don't need it anymore anyway. How much better can it be?
Shit happen every now and then. Everyone just wants to get back to what he/she was on before the breakdown. That's the whole point.
The right way to use a laptop is couple it with an external hd or a desktop file server and back yourself every once a while especially when the user is on important projects. Nowadays, it only takes a push of button.
If the user doesn't do his/her part of taking care himself/herself and points the finger on any brand. He/she is too ideal not to have nightmare.
Dell and Sony use more irregular parts than HP or IBM. For Toshiba Protege, it is an art piece to have a laptop as thick as several piece of paper. I cannot expect Toshiba to use regular parts. |
