"Alice, I'm going to the shops today. Would you like to come?" asked Mrs. Wang.

"Which shops are you going to, Mum?" asked Alice.

"I'm going to many different shops. I need to buy a lot of things," said Mrs Wang. "Do you need anything from the shops?"

"Yes, I need a new pair of jeans. Mine have holes in them," said Alice.

"All right, come with me and I'll buy you a new pair of jeans," said Mrs. Wang.

"Thanks, Mum. What do you need to buy at the shops?" asked Alice.

"I need to buy a watch for my son."

"I need to buy a present for Dad's birthday. I think I will buy him a computer book. I need to buy some food. I also need to buy a pair of shoes," said Mrs. Wang.

nothing wrong in english,
just a matter we don't say it that way here.

i'm not saying anything is wrong, just try to let people know what we are saying and using in the US.

I agree with jcais' and nothing wrong of the grammar though, I notice that seems only girls call their mother "mom" but most guys ( Jew, Italian, portugese and spanish etc ) call thier mother "ma",maybe it is already a fashion to the children call their mother in north America
I don't know about others, but myself, all along, live in N.America over a decade, I wonder if I live the same city of anyone of you.

it is so interesting but i still doubt kid call their mother "Mom" istead of "Mum"? what the difference of the pronounciation? from most of the American movies here, that sounds like Mum.

that's the pronouciation difference between british and american english.
here, we pronounce "o" more like "u".
