i also feel that question one is the most confusing. i asked another person to do the multiple choices and the result was "come up from behind". maybe baby can tell us? [;821]
"she is standing there, (being) perfectly calm" should be okay.
"as the curtain rose" is better than "as the curtain was rising".
the multiple choices are not well put. at least i would not say "the old lady would be very excited in talking of so many incidents". rather, i'd change it to "in takikng of incidents even so little (insignificant)" to make the sentence more balanced.
