MY ENGLISH'S STILL IMPROVING... AND GOOD NEWS THAT I GOT TO KNOW MANY NEW LANDED IMMIGRANTS THIS MONTH. I'V BEEN SPEAKING CHINESE ALL THE TIME. BUT IN THE 春節聯歡晚會 I JUST COULDN'T UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE WORDS. I'M FROM THE NORTHERN CHINA, SO THERE ARE STILL QUIET AFEW MANDARIN WORDS  THAT I STRUGGLE WITH.

You do not have to show off your English in the front of more educated people here.

You are still struggling with your Chinese? Maybe you have a poor ability in languages, both in Chinese and in English. You poor English still needs improved.

不好意思前面打擊了你一下.很正常,我兒子也是只會講一點點中文,看是幾乎看不懂.法語馬馬虎虎,英語和你一樣錯誤百出.多練就好.我兒子主要是通過看英文卡通片學的英文.學校教的很快.你可以上中文學校.

language 一般講是skills. 如language skills.strong technical aptitude and organizational skills.
ability 如the ability to work accurately and independently., problem-solving ability (skills)

而且我說得也沒錯呀？ 我自己也承認我的英語還在進步嘛！ 這個帖子是我2004年12月發表的。 那時候我也剛來加拿大時間不多呀？！
我也不像你們都成家立業， 上過大學，考過託付。 我是跟著爸爸媽媽來的，剛開始深一步的學習英語，我剛來加拿大時句子都組不好呢...
我年齡不大，漢語本來學得不紮實，可也不至於這樣說我吧...
我前幾個月的時候就開始跟中國人多接觸了，漢語已經進步了很多，雖然說趕不上那個uuhh 可也不至於像他說的那樣把
我那貼在show off 嗎? 正常說話都有人阻擋啊？

其實呢。。。我也不是很生氣，就是有點看不慣他那態度。

Lucy just vented out on her frustration in losing her touch with the Chinese language skill.  Why did some clowns switch the topic to criticize her English writing?  

It really ticked me off when these clowns couldn't even write proper English.

Chinglish is OK if it enhances the clarity of the message being communicated. I resent the stereotyping that Chinglish is bad.

The key is whether the writing communicates the message clearly.  I don't see any ambiguity in the message that Lucy was trying to convey.

Lucy, relax, your Chinese language skill won't be unlearned. Reading skill is usually easier to pick up than the writing skill.  I have re-acquired my Chinese language reading capability and a bit of writing skill after spending the last few years plowing through the Chinese literature/fiction on the Internet. Just be patience and keep your practice in reading and writing.  Good luck!

I always thought those people were being picky, but not anymore. I'm begining to realize that it's actually a good thing that they criticized me, I got to know how bad my English really was. BUT!! i wrote that when i FIRST came to Canada, when i FIRST learn English. Don't see the point of telling me i have poor language abilities. Trying to make me negative?
