本篇主要內容是講印度人Navneet駕車在印度旅行，從果阿(印度的一個邦)返程回來 ，對比印度和中國的道路。文中每頁第一張圖片是印度的道路，第二張是中國的道路。
We asked many people and then searched on net and decided that we will take NH17 to Pernem. We checked out in the morning on 11th April. We wanted to cover most of the distance before sunset because we were not familiar with the roads and were not sure of the condition of the roads, or should I say because we were almost sure of what to look forward to and the experience had put us on guard. However we couldn』t clear before eleven and that too without bothering to have some breakfast. Food as such is not a priority with (us). We checked out and put our bags in the dickey. As on all other days, we stopped at Monginis to have something.
我們問過很多人，並且還在網上搜索，然後決定取道NH17公路去Pernem(譯註：印度果阿邦的一個城市)。我們在4月11號早上結賬離開。我們想在日落之前，儘可能多逛點地方，因為我們不是太熟悉路，也不清楚路況，也許我這麼說有些貿然，因為我們幾乎已經確認前景將會如何，過往經驗已經讓我們心生芥蒂。 11點前，總之我們還不能完事，早餐也不得清靜。食物對於我們來說不是第一位的事情。我們結帳后，把行李放在車架上。如往常一樣，我們在 Monginis(譯註：印度餅店)的店裡停留，買點吃的。

So after narrow arteries of Goan suburbs we came on the high way. The morning was pleasant and spring was in full swing. We headed for Panaji as we had decided to take NH17 from Pernem to Sawantwadi and from there we were to take Amboli –Ajara road to reach Kohlapur where the road joined NH4. We decided to fill the petrol before leaving Goa as petrol in Goa at that time was nearly seven rupees per liter cheaper.
在駛過果阿邦郊區的狹窄幹道后，我們進入了高速路。這是個美好的早晨，春意盎然。我們朝Panaji(譯註：印度果阿邦首府)方向前進，從Pernem(譯註：印度果阿邦的一個城市)到Sawantwadi(譯註：酒店名稱)，由於我們已經決定取道NH17，我們走Amboli-Ajara路到達 Kohlapur(譯註：印度馬哈拉施特拉邦西南的一個城市)，那裡有路連接NH4。我們決定在離開果阿之前加滿油，因為果阿這個地方的汽油當時每公升將近便宜7個盧比。

We wanted to fill at a station where service was also provided for checking air in the tyres. All service stations are supposed to provide basic services and this is very basic one of those. In Chandigarh all service stations provide free air filling/checking. It』s not that we were keen to have a free service but their pneumatic gauges have a digital display and push button for changing set point. Moreover the machine beeps when the pressure in the tyre equals the set value, so the customer knows how much air is being filled. In Pune on all service stations I found the service not being provided but men opearting from the shacks sitting in the corner at exit doing a frisk business.
我們想在加油站加油，那裡也提供輪胎檢查服務。所有服務站點都有必要提供基本服務，輪胎服務也是十分基本的。在Chandigarh(譯註：印度北部城市)，所有的服務站都提供免費的充氣和檢查服務。也不是說我們就會熱衷於無償服務，他們的氣動計量儀器帶有數字顯示，可以按鍵改變預設數值。機器在輪胎氣壓達到數值後會發出鳴響，所以顧客知道究竟充了多少空氣。在Pune(譯註：普納，印度西北城市)，所有的服務站不提供這樣的服務，而是人工操作，人坐在出口處一個角落的小棚子里，做著手工活。

I don』t know why Indian roadside shops are so dirty. Agreed India has the problem of dust but that doesn』t mean the interior should never be broomed or dusted.
We wait for someone to come and clean the places where we live or work because we think it below our status to clean and mop. Though kitchens are out of bounds for the customers but if you happen to peep in, you won』t be able to eat there, but you find the places favourite with the customers and bustling with activity. They have category 1 Certificates given by food authority, proudly displayed. Some places display many other certificates of merit but there is nothing to show in way of cleanliness.
我不知道為什麼印度的路邊店這麼臟，我同意印度有塵土，但那不意味著包間不應該打掃清理。
我們等待有人來並清潔我們的生活或工作的地方，因為我們認為清潔並擦洗低於我們的地位。雖然廚房不讓客戶進入，但如果碰巧窺視一下，你將無法在那裡吃飯。但活動繁華並受顧客喜愛的地方，他們有由糧食局頒發的1類證書，並自豪地展示。有些地方顯示許多其他證書，但沒有任何顯示在清潔程度的方面。

After driving for another two hours, we reached one reasonably OK place which could barely meet our approval whose bar had been lowered by severe hunger pangs .
又行駛了兩個小時后，我們到達了一個看起來像樣的地方，那勉強達到了我們已經被飢餓嚴重降低了的衛生標準。

At last we hit the highway at around 6.30 PM. Big boards proclaiming achievements of NHAI and adorning pictures of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi welcomed us. This was the point that we had missed while driving to Goa. We couldn』t have found it anyway as there was no signboard marking that the small patchy road branching out from the Highway was a link road for Goa. Moreover since this road joined on the right side of the highway, the people driving down from Pune/Mumbai would need to take a detour or leave highway somewhere in Kohlapur and take a branch road after entering the city but one should know of it before hand.
最後我們終於在6:30道路高速公路。宣揚NHAI成就和繪著曼莫漢·辛格與索尼婭·甘地裝飾畫的大板歡迎我們。這是我們在果阿時已經錯過了的路。無論如何我們無法找到，因為沒有標誌牌表明小路分支從公路連接到果阿。此外，因為這條道路從右側加入高速公路，駕駛人從普納/孟買將需要採取繞道或在Kohlapur 某處離開公路，進入城市后的一個岔路口，但必須得事前知道這件事。
