Why not?
There are two levels of being American: legal and ethnic. Nobody will argue about your kids being legal Americans.
But unless 'you' stop thinking your kids are somewhat Chinese, they will always be Chinese. In other words, they can only be 'American' if you stop telling them they are somewhat Chinese.
True, 德國人不會稱自己ABG法國移民的後裔不會稱自己為ABF, but that's after many generations of integration. We have to wait a few generations, like they did. I believe this treatment is pretty fair, don't you?

I don't think that there is anything wrong with calling them "Chinese Americans."
Chinese Americans are not simply Americans. They are Americans in terms of citizenship and all other rights that come with citizenship. But they are ethnically and culturally Chinese or at least some of them choose to identify themselves that way. Why should I stop thinking my kids as somewhat Chinese? They are ethnically Chinese.
If someone wants nothing to do with China or Chinese. That's his choice. I respect that too.
