Both wet and dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are caused by a nutritional and or oxygen deficiency/free radical damage and treated by using diet and supplementation.

Free radicals concerning AMD are created when ultraviolet and blue light strike the eye which is not stopped by the cornea and lens which damages the retina over time. AMD is also affected by pollution, improper eye protection and the lack of proper sunlight, and exercise all things in harmony for a holistic approach.

Many studies have shown the nutritional benefits in the prevention of AMD and when properly treated lessen the condition worsening. These studies emphasize the nutrients carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin, anti-oxidants Vitamin C and P5P, the amino acid L-taurine, and the benefits of micro-stimulation. Studies point to Lutein and zeaxanthin as being touted the most helpful since they appear to lessen the ultraviolet and blue light damage and may protect against lipid peroxidation (LPO), a mechanism of cellular injury in plants humans and animals and used as an indicator of oxidative stress in cells and  from fatty tissue acid in the photo-receptor membrane; and may protect the blood vessels that supply the macular region.

The absence of one nutrient can affect the body's ability to use another this is the synergistic approach to health and well being. Factors of consideration are age, not so much your chronological age but your biological age; how did you drive this baby during your years in the driver』s seat? Activity levels and stress also affect the bodies need for nutrients from your diet and or from supplementation.

Exercise is very important in raising oxygen levels within the cells of the body and increases lymph and blood circulation, in the prevention of chronic eye diseases; exercise to a minimum of 20 minutes per day, four days a week.

Eye tips: Don't keep your eyes focused in one place for an extended period of time, change your vision look up or away when you're doing close up or computer work giving your eyes a break.

Natural sunlight, get at least 20 minutes per day since your eyes are light affected organs and need proper sunlight, always remember wear UV- protective sunglasses reducing the damaging effects of sun rays.
Smokers have a significantly higher risk of eye disease than non-smokers; my advice quit smoking!

This short study is not complete but provides the bases for further research, holistic treatment of AMD cannot be complete without rebuilding the eyes through nutritional methods. Beneficial food spinach, asparagus, and other green leafy, garlic, broccoli, and organic eggs, kale, zucchini, kiwifruit, garden peas, brussel sprouts goji berries, blueberries.
