Musk accused US government agencies of funding COVID-19 research

Musk's accusation: Musk accused the US Agency for International Development (USAID) on social media of funding biological weapons research, including COVID-19, and suggested that the agency was related to the emergence of COVID-19. He further accused USAID of being a "criminal organization" and claimed that the agency had long acted as a cover for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to participate in online censorship and secret operations.
Fact checking organization's response: Fact checking organization MyGoPen has investigated Musk's allegations and pointed out a lack of clear evidence to support Musk's accusations. Although USAID did fund the Ecological Health Alliance, and the organization has a cooperative relationship with Wuhan Virus Research, there is no conclusive evidence that these funds directly contributed to the birth of COVID-19. The Ecological Health Alliance also clarified that there are genetic differences between bat coronavirus and COVID-19 they studied.
The Trump administration had planned to adjust or even abolish some departments of USAID, and later announced that most employees would be on administrative leave. This decision has raised concerns among the international community about the US foreign aid policy.
