I have lost my respect to Beijing for a long time already. It is not surprising at all to me for you to have such an experience. A so-called socialist country put the capital in front of other regions in every aspect: a political center, an economic center, a traffic and communication center, a financial center, a cultural center, .... therefore Beijing citizens think they are superior citizens than other Chinese. Once you are in Beijing, taxi drivers drive you off the cab if your destanition is too short or you don't agree the price they ask for. In recent years I have tried my best to avoid stopping in Beijing and not to spend a penny there. Howevey it is very hard, the government restricts the international airports in the northern part of China to Beijing only. Last year, I directly flow to Xian after arriving Beijing, though I have relatives there, and found there were only two flights in Xianyang "International" Airport and a few passengers walking in the lobby while Beijing airport was extremly busy.
