第一講：about "chance" and "bad"
Chance:
以下是關於chance的幾個習語，意思都是「不可能」：
1.not a chance/no chance
「i do saw some fish right under us.」
"Not a chance."
」我確實看到幾條魚在我們正下方游。「
」不可能。「
2.fat chance
」Give us money back and we'll leave.「
"Fat chance."
"把錢退給我們我們就走。"
」休想！「
3.not a cat in hell's chance
」Sir,would you kindly do me a favor to yield a seat to me. I feel so bad.「

Bad
1.feel bad about sth         對……感到遺憾、抱歉
」Robbi said you couldnot take him to New York together with you.「
"I feel really bad about it,but i was so busy.Maybe we can do it next weekend."
"羅伯特說你不能帶他去紐約了。"
」對此我非常抱歉，但是我實在是太忙了。也許下周末可以。「
2.that's too bad.          太遺憾了。
"This moring we were having a good time to fish together,but it was windy and rainy suddenly.So we had to get back in a hurry."
"That's too bad."
」今早上我們一塊釣魚正玩的進行，突然颳起了風、下起了雨。我們不得不趕回來了。「

3.You have picked a bad apple. 你這主意真臭；你挑的東西太爛了。

about "wait" and "bet"

wait

1.cann't wait (to do sth)
等不及了；表示興奮
I cann't wait to see my girlfriend.You know,we have not met each other for three years.
就要見到我的女朋友了！我真有點等不及了。要知道，我們已經有三年沒有見面了。
2. You wait!
你等著瞧；威脅語
You wait! You just wait! You will find Mr Philip is not a fellow to tangle with.
你等著瞧！咱們騎驢看唱本！總有一天你會知道飛利浦不是好惹的。
3.what are you waiting for?
你還等什麼？督促快點做事
It is getting dark.What are you waiting for? We won't be finished by dinnertime.
天就要黑了。再不快乾，晚飯的時候我們就做不完了。
4.wait for it.
1）暫停
Ready,steady----wait for it-----go!
各就位！預備！停停停！跑！
2）話說到關鍵時賣關子用的套語
There were out of stock at the moment in our local shop,so i tried to buy some in a shop in New York and the girl there----wait for it-----"We're out of stock at the moment but i am sure we will have some in by next week."
這會我們店裡沒有貨了，因此我就去紐約的店裡去買，你猜店裡的那個妞給我說啥來著？我們現在也沒貨，不過我確定到下周的時候我們就會進貨。
5.wait a minute/moment/second
1）等等；不禮貌的打斷別人說話時用
Wait a minute,please!Have you ever seen a bag here?A small canvus bag.
等等！！你們在這看到一個小包了嗎？一個小帆布包。
2）等等；發現說錯，想糾正時或想停下來思考一下時用
Wait for it.Let me see.Oh, my God! I got it.I forgot it in the plane.
等等，讓我想想啊。哦，天呀！我想起來了。我把它忘在飛機上了。
6.wait and see
耐著點性子，別著急！
Don't be so anxious! Wait and see.Everything will be clear!
別那麼急！耐著點性子！一切都會真相大白的！
7.wait for baby
等等鄙人。熟人之間的俏皮話。
Wait for baby!Don't be so fast! I can hardly catch up with you.
等等鄙人嘛！別這麼快，我都跟不上你們了。
8.wait till the clouds roll by
等到雲開日出時；喻要持樂觀態度
Failure is not final;what counts is courage.Keep up your courage!You can do it!
失敗又不是終了；只有勇氣才是永恆的。振作點！你能成功！
bet

1.Do you want to bet?/do you want a bet?
你敢打賭嗎？
"Do you want a bet?"
"What's the bet?"
「你敢打賭嗎？。」
「賭什麼？。」
2.I/'ll bet
1)我敢打賭
I bet I can type the letter out in three minutes.
我敢打賭，我能在三分鐘之內把這封信打出來。
2)我敢打賭。常常說成:I bet you did/do/will/have! 反語，表示不相信對方的話
"Last afternoon i played basketball for three hours without a stop and not felt a thing."
"I bet you did!"
「昨天下午我一連打了三個鐘頭的籃球，一點事兒沒有。」
「我敢打賭！。」
3.You bet.
1)說得極是，你說得對
"In my opinion,there is too many commercials on television."
"You bet!"
「我認為現在電視上的商業廣告太多了。」
「說的極是。」
2)用於加強語氣
You bet i want a day off to get energetic again.
我真是想休息一天，恢復一下精力。
4.I bet your father must be a blacksmith
我敢打賭你爹一定是打鐵的。俏皮話，驚嘆對方一語中的
How do you know China football team can be admitted to the World Cup?I bet your father must be a blacksmith.
你是怎麼知道中國足球隊會入圍世界盃的？我想你爹一定是個打鐵的。要不然你怎麼會猜這麼准呢？
5.It's anyone's bet.
這是誰也說不準，這事沒把握
"Now the country doesnot gurantee college students work.Will it does good or harm to us?"
"It is anyone's bet.Perhaps it will bring more equal compitition."
「現在大學生國家也不包分配了，究竟是好還是壞呢？」
「誰知道呢？也許競爭會更公平一些吧。」
6.I wouldn't bet on it.
這事*不住。勸誡語，亦說成I wouldn't do it on a bet.
It is said in an ad that it only takes one month to make one grow 10 centimeters taller with its medicine.I wouldn't bet on it.It is just a trick of getting money by fraud.
某廣告上說用它的葯一個月就可以長10公分。我才不信呢。只不過是騙錢的把戲。
7.Would you like to bet on it?
真是這樣嗎？你敢保證嗎？你敢打保票嗎？
You said today's class is cancelled at the last moment. Would you like to bet on it?
你說今天的課臨時被取消了。你敢打保票嗎？
8.That's your best bet.
你最好是……
Under this condition,you should speaking frankly to your supercisor and listen to his advice.It is no good and no use keeping it a secret.That's your best bet.
在這種情況下，你最好和你導師直說，然後聽聽他的意見。隱瞞對你沒有好處，也沒用。你只能這樣做了。
指點別人時說，亦說成
Let me tell you the best bet

Getting familiar with expressions commonly used by the people around you is a good thing but I doubt if it's that good to intentionally americanize your own ways of expression. Some of them have cultural backgrounds and you need to be sure whether you really mean it before saying it like a real Yankee.

we don't mean to imitate the way of expression like American, to learn and enlarge more, at least, no harm for all of us.
