標題: 音樂名稱英漢對照及翻譯探討
馳名世界的The Beatles, 在中國翻譯成甲殼蟲，在海外翻譯成披頭士或者披頭四。

我覺得，翻譯成甲殼蟲是創始人的疏忽，看錯了一個字母。Beetles才是甲殼蟲。後來小錯鑄成，將錯就錯，約定俗成了。說你是甲殼蟲，你就是甲殼蟲，不是也是。

上海聲像出版社發行的SHANIA TWAIN 的專輯 Come On Over, 不知道為什麼翻譯成[桑妮亞

哦？第一次知道甲殼蟲叫錯了。不過大家都錯了那就不錯了。說你是你就是，不是也是。

歌名歌詞的翻譯隨意性很大，像詩一樣。就是原文不見得就一種意思。所以翻譯后就算變點味也無所謂。

感謝回帖。上述專輯中，沒有歌曲叫《回到我身邊》。專輯的中文名稱可能不是來自翻譯，而是另起爐灶。如果是翻譯，我認為是錯譯而非「活譯」。

在網上的CD資料中，「十大姐」被翻譯成The Tenth Sister, 意思是「第十姐」。而歌詞提到「10個姐妹」，所以我改成了Ten Sisters。

在網上的CD資料中，「玉鳥」被翻譯成Jade Bird。但是在英文里，Jade Bird 是用翠玉雕刻成的鳥，顯然不會唱。所以我改成了Birds。

我覺得，與其把劉三姐音譯成 Liu San Jie ，不如意譯。What is the English for 桂林歌仙 or 灕江歌后？

Third Sister Liu 的譯法也準確，雖然被人譏笑，但是譏笑者沒說出錯在哪裡，也沒拿出替代方案。紅樓夢英譯本中的尤二姐尤三姐也是 Second Sister Yu and Third Sister Yu

有資料這樣註解：musical: 歌劇，歌舞劇，音樂（喜劇）電影

其實，musical 不是歌劇，在中國叫音樂劇，海外也叫歌舞劇。儘管有的書把它稱作輕歌劇，但是輕歌劇這個名字沒流傳開來。歌劇是Opera。茶花女是歌劇，賣花女是音樂劇。

有些音樂劇不是喜劇。例如悲慘世界 Les Miserables，又如 Jekyll and Hyde。

We have got 3 randitions of 小河淌水 now: A running stream; Brook Running Water;  Small_River_Is_Running.

As to 馬鈴響來玉鳥兒唱 Horse bell jingling and green (feathered) birds singing, I am not sure that 玉鳥 is green.  玉 could be red, too.  A bird lover said 玉鳥 is just another name for 芙蓉鳥。

玉色: 淡青色 (「現代漢語詞典」，中國社會科學院語言研究所編) light bluish green.

送別歌曲Red River Valley 這首美加名歌早就在中國流傳，早期叫《紅河村》，可能因為翻譯人把valley 看成了vallage。後來正名為《紅河谷》，但是上了歲數的人還叫《紅河村》。歌名改了，歌詞沒改，仍然說村莊，而沒改成谷地。

這首歌曲粵語版本還叫《紅河村》，是玉女周慧敏的歌曲.

Thanks. There were so many English experts in China during 1950's and 1960's. Why did they let 《紅河村》get away and become the standard title of a popular song? That is something I cannot figure out.

it is one of my favorite and it moves me everytime i listen to it.

i never noticed the lyrics i heard, which was so touchy, was not even a liberal translation but something i would call new work. what a wonderful piece of creative work!

i also read the more faithful version of the lyrics and i like it too. i remember i heard someone sang with this version of the lyrics. but i was not fallen for it. the words didn't go along with the music well. the lyrics was not very singable.

back to the very singable lyrics, displayed above, the catch word for the place where the sad story happened is a small village, not a valley. i think this could explain partially why the title was red river village. the original translator, with his zeal to perfect, had chosen an equally liberal approach towards the title as he did with the rest of the song.

the song will live a long life with the lyrics and the title as we see them here now.

You have made your point. The change from "valley" to "village" could be intentional, not an error in translation. But how do you explain the fact that, after so many years, its Chinese title has been changed back from 《紅河村》to《紅河谷》 by others[/COLOR]?

that's a big question. i can only make a guess and then speculate as there may be a dozen different explanations with each being a legitmate one.

it could be that someone didn't like the free s^tyle translation of the original words of the song and wanted a more accurate translation hence the literal version and a faithful title: red river valley. my speculation is that it's mostly not for better but for change or zeal to change.

給約翰的一封信[/COLOR] is a wrong translation of the song title, A Dear John Letter. It should be 絕情書, 絕交信[/COLOR] or someting like it. A Dear John letter is a letter terminating a relationship, a letter from a woman ending a romantic or sexual relationship. 「John」 is a common male given name.

《春江花月夜》原名《夕陽花鼓》。本是一首琵琶古曲，目前能見到的最早樂譜是一八七五年的手抄本。后被改編成合奏，重奏等。他是中華民族音樂的代表名曲之一。本輯唱片中聽到的是由李煒將其改編而成的古箏版本。全曲以「江樓鐘鼓」，「月上東山」，「花影層疊」，「水雲深處」，「漁歌晚唱」，「回瀾拍岸」，「乃歸舟」和「尾聲八段」組成。該曲通過優美質樸的旋律，流暢多變的節奏，豐富巧妙的指法，形象地描繪了月夜春光的迷人景色，生動的表現了泛舟暢遊的歡樂心情，盡情地讚美了江南水鄉的錦繡河山。全曲就像一幅色彩柔和，工筆精細，千姿百態的山水長卷，引人入勝，動人肺腑。
This is an ancient pipa tune, originated from "Flute and Drum at Sunset" written in 1875. It is one of the best known pieces of Chinese national music. Moreover, it is often been adapted for ensembles of various instruments. Wei LI re-arranged it into a guzheng solo piece. He divided it into eight movements: "Bell and Drum from the Tower", "Moon Rising above the Eastern Mountain", "Multi-layered shadows of flowers", "At the Distance Where the Water and Clouds Meets", "Fisherman』s Song at Dusk", "Whirling Willows Lapping against the Shore", "Boat Returning Home", and "Coda". Developed from simple and beautiful melodies, LI transformed it into a beautiful piece with varying rhythms and smart motif. The music depicts the fascinating scenes of the moonlight over the river in springtime. The movements seem like a long scroll of Chinese traditional painting in soft colors with detailed sketches of an infinitively enchanting landscape. My 2 cents:
牆上跑馬 should be Riders on the Great Wall
Little silver boat  is better for 小白船, and the silver moon sails in the Milky Way is artistic and poetic.
Autumn Meditation is a good randiton for 秋思 while Yearning in Autumn means 秋日渴望 or 秋之嚮往.  The Chinese title of the famous instrumental, Meditation from Thais, is 沉思
As to Thoughts in a Bamboo Grove-竹林隨想曲.  Thoughts is not a good word here and there is a term for 隨想曲. Wandering in a bamboo grove is 竹林漫步

On the first page, I argued that the song title, The Gambler, should not be translated as《賭徒的悔恨》. 悔恨 is neither in the English title nor in the lyric. Here is the lyric:

《賊喜鵲》是羅西尼創作的第二十部歌劇，1817年首演於義大利米蘭斯卡拉歌劇院。作品創作於歐洲連年戰爭歲月之後，迎合了民眾渴求安寧的情緒。在這部歌劇中，羅西尼以其特有的手法淋漓盡致地表現出皆大歡喜的喜劇氣氛，從而使羅西尼成為當時的風雲人物。這部歌劇的劇情圍繞著一把銀匙的下落和作為小偷的一隻喜鵲而展開，描寫了一個美貌的少女被誤判絞刑而最後獲釋，以及她的父親同時被赦免的故事。

How to translate the title of 霍思羽's 唱片《飛花鶯啼》? The words printed on Its cover are "Song of Fly Flowers and Dancing Birds".

You are right. I thought about that. Then I googled and found quite a few "flying flowers". Now, after a little research, I have realized that "flying flowers" is a nickname of butterflies. The cases in point:
"...reading about butterflies to become a better educated partner in the effort to keep these amazing 'flying flowers' with us."
"Butterfly watching is a fun activity that is rapidly growing in popularity, and no wonder―it truly is a joy to see these 『flying flowers』 in your garden. "

i can't get them all. i guess the number 9 may be 在草原上, or 草原晨曲. number 8 is quite confusing: how can flowers be blown to a lake? "tour of light" sounds scientific and needs imaginations to be related to an ancient chinese song.

i see that website. it sells music discs to customers in canada and the us. all the titles, the cd's and the tune's, are translated to english, which i can recognize only a small portion. my impression is that the translation likely was made by an ABC who may try a literal match for words when the chinese title appears too "abstract".

Fishing Boat Singing Dusk and Jackdaws Playing the Water(《寒鴉戲水》) Look like computer translation. I mean, it was done word by word and the necessary prepositions are missing. For example, the latter should be "Jackdaws Playing with Water".

Suwu Tending Sheep《蘇武牧羊》should be Su Wu Tending Sheep.

Rushed China for 錦繡中華? Give me a break. It should be China the Beautiful, Splendid China, or something like these.

天涯歌女 The Wandering Female Singer

周璇's favourite film was always Street Angel (R路天使). This contained two theme songs: "Four Seasons Song" (四季歌) and "The Wandering Songstress" (天涯歌女) which enjoyed long-lasting popularity. To this day, Zhou Xuan's songs still remain a staple in many Golden Oldies collections in Mandarin popular music.
Her biography is told in adapted materials. One of them is TVB's Song Bird (天涯歌女) in 1989, starring Nnadia Chan as Zhou Xuan and Leon Lai as her lover.

名不副實的「美國鄉村音樂專輯」

It is said that "北京現代音樂研修學院推出的美國鄉村音樂(永恆經典) 五張專輯，其中幾乎囊括了美國鄉村音樂八十多年發展史中所有經典的，極具代表性的作品".
As a fan of American country music, I have read the list of the songs collected here.  What a surprise!  Most songs listed are a part of the western pop music, not the American country.

Take DISC 5 for example, Rose Garden and Help Me Make It Through the Night are country songs.  Most of the rest, if not all of it, are pop songs.
Since when 披頭士的「Yesterday」，「Let It Be 」和披頭士的保羅麥卡特尼的「Jey Jude」, as well as the songs of Air Supply, became a part of American country music? These songs are neither country nor American.

This so-called「美國鄉村音樂專輯」is circlelated on the Internet. According to an orbserver called 寂靜深藍, "這五張專輯是在網上流傳很廣的美國鄉村音樂永恆經典。"  The author wrote, 幾乎所有的介紹都說是美國鄉村音樂，經典鄉村音樂之類的，只有一個網站的介紹說是：「酒吧里經典的英文歌曲專集」，還不錯，不過要把「酒吧」去掉就更好了。

寂靜深藍：
   這五張專輯里收錄的歌絕大部分不能說是鄉村歌曲，更不是美國鄉村歌曲！而且，試聽了十幾首歌，都不是原唱！不過這些歌曲都曾經被廣泛傳唱。像最後的華爾茲（the last waltz），kiss me goodbye ，寂靜之聲（sound of silence ），五百哩（500 miles），白蘭鴿（palomablanca ），月亮河（moon river ），愛情是藍色的（love is blue ），黛安娜（diana ），噢，卡羅爾（oh!carol），love me tender ......很多了，幾乎每首歌都是經典。

On the other hand, 許多經典的，具代表性的鄉村歌曲並不在這些CD里。There fore, this album should be titled accordingly. And the word, country, should be dropped.

是的。「編輯」進入以後，複製原件到Notepad，再用Notepad裡面的Replace，改「說的」為「說得」。兩個字一起改比較保險。也可以用Wordpad或者Word，但Notepad輕便，啟動快。

我的Word 就啟動很慢。有辦法加速嗎？我把中英文貼到文件里保存時用Word。因為Notepad, Wordpad 不分行。

i have the same problem as my Word is slow to start too. so i switch to Notepad and Wordpad when i need only simple editing features. most of the time i store english-chinese language files in .txt format (with "Unicode" encoding) or as an unsent email item (so i can check them easily with Lookout Express).

for Notepad and Wordpad, there is a feature called "Wrap" that allows you to wrap words in a line (to different widths). in Notepad, this Wrap feature can be activated by clicking "Format" then toggling "Word Wrap" on and off.

in Wordpad, it can be accessed via Option in the View menu. When you checkout Option, you have a small window with a number of tags, visit the Text, Rich Text, and Word tags and check the "Wrap to window" radio button in each.
