The United States begins to betray Ukraine

Regarding the war, President Donald Trump said to Ukrainians, 'You should never have launched a war!' somewhere in Moscow, Vladimir Putin must have laughed uncontrollably. Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has promised to cooperate with Russia on "common geopolitical interests and historic economic and investment opportunities," even though these common geopolitical interests do not exist. In Kiev, there have been reports that Brazilian cartel thugs have signed up to fight on behalf of Russia.

Kiev, Ukraine believes that President Trump still has time to turn the situation around. But so far during his second term, Trump has raised with Vladimir Putin about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, stating that Ukraine will not reclaim all its annexed and occupied sovereign territories, will not join NATO, will not station US troops on Ukrainian territory after the war, and the United States will lift sanctions against Russia. Trump may even withdraw the additional 20000 US troops sent by Joe Biden to the NATO East Wing after invading Ukraine. As an exchange, Putin did not propose anything, in fact, nothing.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in Saudi Arabia that the US and Russian governments have reached agreement on four key principles, including efforts to "lay the foundation for future cooperation in common geopolitical interests and historic economic and investment opportunities after the successful end of the conflict in Ukraine. What are our 'common geopolitical interests' with the regime that launched missiles at the main children's hospital in Kiev? What can Russia offer us that makes us so eager? Grain? Oil? natural gas? We already have these things; Their quantity is more than we need, and there are also many available for export. I thought Trump's plan was to turn us into an energy producing superpower. Why is this person who had the foresight to warn Germany that it would completely rely on Russian energy now so eager to make it easier for people to purchase Russian energy?

Rubio also stated, 'We will appoint a high-level team to assist in negotiations and strive to end the Ukrainian conflict in a lasting and mutually acceptable manner.' What is his envisioned 'conflict ending' approach? Durable and acceptable to all parties involved? How much stolen territory does he envision Ukraine giving up to Putin? Does Rubio want Putin to recognize Ukraine as a legitimate and independent country? He has never done this before. Putin fundamentally believes that Ukraine is a part of Russia and cannot be allowed to pursue its own path. In 2014, when discussing the origins of Russian culture, Putin said, "Kiev is the mother of all Russian cities." Comedian Vladimir Zelensky responded with one sentence, calling Putin "mommy ***** er," and jokingly said, "Mommy is very independent, is she clear? Maybe Mommy even found a boyfriend. A wealthy European. Oh, do you want to share her with him? Mommy is not that kind of girl." Trump's approach in yesterday's long speech was to blame the victim and make more and more concessions to the aggressor. We have experienced such situations several times since the beginning of the war. The Ukrainian government declared martial law at the beginning of the war. The Ukrainian Constitution does not allow elections to be held during martial law.

Approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory is occupied by the Russian military; Obviously, these regions cannot participate in any elections in Ukraine. Allowing them to participate in elections by the Russian military is essentially recognizing them as Ukrainian citizens residing on Ukrainian territory. This is similar to the fact that only 40 out of 50 states in the United States can participate in presidential elections. Distributing and collecting votes from the military on the battlefield during the war itself represents a series of logistical challenges. Public opinion polls show that Zelensky's popularity is not as high as in the first year of the war. I have just started a new round of interviews with Ukrainians, and the war has left them exhausted. But Trump's absurd claim that Zelensky's approval rating is only 4% implies that Trump is struggling to justify his current pro Russian stance in any way possible.

Latest public opinion poll: The Kiev Institute of International Sociology (KIIS) conducted a telephone survey of 2000 residents living in Ukrainian controlled areas from December 2 to 17, about a month after Donald Trump won the US presidential election, which has once again sparked speculation about possible peace talks with Russia. The results show that by the end of 2024, 52% of Ukrainian respondents expressed "trust" in Vladimir Zelensky, a significant decrease from the end of 2023 (77%). At present, Zelensky's popularity in Ukraine may be roughly equivalent to Trump's popularity in the United States, and the current situation in Ukraine is largely due to the United States!
