Starlink has once again been recognized as Canada's fastest satellite internet service in the latest speed tests conducted by Ookla. The tests revealed that Starlink's download speeds in Canada have increased by 28 Mbps over the last two quarters, reaching an average of 93.97 Mbps. This speed is 40% faster than the speeds measured for Starlink in the United States during the same period.
Among satellite internet providers in Canada, Starlink also achieved the highest average upload speed, clocking in at 9.60 Mbps. However, it still lags behind the main terrestrial players in the country in terms of upload speed.

Viasat, another satellite internet provider operating in Canada, has experienced a significant speed boost. In Q3 2022, Viasat's speed was measured at 24.36 Mbps, but it has now risen to 48.24 Mbps as of Q1 2023.
To expand its subscriber base in rural areas of Canada, Starlink is currently making a strong push and offering an attractive hardware deal. Qualified customers can purchase Starlink hardware for just $199, which is a 70% discount off the standard price of $759.
However, in the United States, Starlink faces challenges in keeping up with broadband providers in terms of speed, as highlighted by the Ookla study. Despite making modest speed improvements, Starlink can be up to 68% slower than broadband options in certain metropolitan areas. Nevertheless, users remain highly satisfied with Starlink's service and are more likely to recommend it to their friends and family compared to other internet alternatives.
