給David This is for David.
Most Chinese music emphasizes melody rather than harmony
David asked me, how to make more spiritual music. I thought it over. First, In Chinese culture, most of the music is mono tone, they emphasize on melody not harmony. So when I hear classical music, especially when I came to United States I heard the pop, all kinds of instruments, different frequency range, different textures, they really pleased my ears. Plus if the Music has touching melody, so wonderful. So human ears can except a wide range of sound and distinguish different kinds of texture. This is also one reason why when you go to the beach hear the waves, you feel so soothing. Because the waves provide you a "white noise" (scientific term) as it covers all the frequency. If you do a portamento in piano, that sounds like rainbow, full of colors. Ask the ear, Do you want to see rainbow or just black white?
