道德經 六十九章 兵

用兵有言，吾不敢為主而為客，不敢進寸而退尺。

是謂行無行，攘無臂，扔無敵，執無兵。

禍莫大於輕敵，輕敵幾喪吾寶。

故抗兵相若，哀者勝矣。

現代解析：

軍事行動有格言，我們不能貿然作為進攻的一方，而是要慎重作為防守的一方。

不能貿然前進一寸，然後必須後退一尺。

這樣就如往前走但沒有實際前進，要推動東西但沒有手臂，要擊打敵人但敵人已經跑掉，要使用武器但沒有武器可以使用。

最大的禍患就是輕視敵人。輕視敵人會喪失我方所有的優勢。

因而說，如果兩軍相對抗，力量相當，那麼憂慮的一方往往勝。

There is a motto for military action: We dare not be an invader, but be defender.

We dare not advance for an inch and then retreat for one foot.

These are just like that marching but not moving forward, pushing something but not having hand to do so, fighting to enemy but the enemy has escaped, using arms but no arms equipped.

The biggest disaster is looking down on the enemy. Looking down on enemy will loss military advantages.

Therefore, if two armies have similar strength, the prudent one will win.
