Vocabulary: 

1. The area the US has been asked to cover = the area the US is responsible for searching
2. Aircraft = airplanes and helicopters
3. The search area is vast and growing = the area is very large and getting bigger
4. Officials grapple with new clues = officials are having difficulty understanding new clues
5. Plane may have veered off course = the airplane might have gone in an different direction
6. Small pieces of debris = small pieces of the plane after an explosion or accident
7. Radar.. able to detect sth.  = radar can locate or find something         
8. Lawnmower = machine people use to cut grass
9. Able to cover X miles = able to search how many miles
10. Over the course of = during
11. Below the water's surface = under the water
12. National transportation safety board = department of the government for transportation safety
13. There is no precedent = never happened before
14. Reached the saturation point = reach the limit, cannot have any more or something
