Acient Chinese Wisdom -Smart Son But Suspicious Neighbor

Here I am trying to use story telling style to show acient Chinese wisdom to people who are intrested in Chinese culture. As we all know, Chinese culture is one of the most valuable heritage assets of human beings, it can trace back to 5,000 years ago, and it still shines as one of the most attractive cultures in the current world.

 

Long, long time ago (this is the way I like to start my story, as always), there was a man lived in the Kingdom Song (or Soong in American). he lived in a big house enclosed with high yard walls. In one heavy rainy day, the walls collapsed and a big notch appeared after the rain.His son saw it and said: Father, we's better fix it or thief will break in. He agrees with his son.

 

His neighbor also saw it and said: you'd better repair your wall as soon as possible, otherwise thief will breach. He thanked his beighbor, but for whatever reason, he didn't act immediately.

 

As you can imagine, that night, thieves got in and stole a pile of fortunes and treasures from him. After immense regrets and self blames, he thought his son was really smart and suspected that his neighbor might be the lead thief, or at least one of the thieves.

 

What do you learn of it? First of all, as a onlooker, if it is not your business, don't butt in. You don't provide help without ask for people you are just neighboring with. A closed relationship is another story. Were you in an employee position, you are even more dangerous. You'd better just shut your mouth up and think it over before you make any suggestion to your boss.

 

Second, you need to keep your mind open when you receive advices from people. If the reality shows you that you are wrong, take it, learn from it, and move forward. Don't be pathetic to find yourself any excuse, or blame others for your own fault.Treat equally among your employees and your trusted aides, otherwise nobody will offer you help in the future. Just simply go to your neighbor and knock his door, say thank you and make a joke of it, then let it go.

 

Third, move fast to fix a problem. Never take chance to let the problem fix itself. A problem is always easier to fix earlier than later, but hey, not always always. We never make absolute conclusion to anything. Of course some problems could be fix by time, like your wife had an affair with the Lawn keeper, just kidding...
