Shooter apprehended near Texas A&M campus, police say
A shooter has been apprehended by police near the Texas A&M campus in College Station, the university reported Monday.
According to KCEN-TV, six people, including two police officers, were shot about a block away from the school's campus. A local newspaper called The Eagle, citing audio from police scanners, also reported two officers were wounded in the apparent shootout.
The shooting occurred near Highlands and Fidelity Streets in College Station, south of the George Bush Drive.
A spokeswoman for the College Station Police Department told KBTX-TV that says "there are no confirmed fatalities at this point" and that there is "no longer a danger to the public."
A member of KBTX-TV film's crew said at least one of the shooting victims was a police officer.
Texas A&M issued an alert on
its website just before 12:30 p.m. on Monday warning of an active
shooter near the campus' football stadium,
according to the Associated Press.
