Since childhood, we were told by many adults, if you don't work hard now in school, you won't find happiness in life when you get older...
So what is happiness? where do you find it? Happiness means different things to different individuals...some say, happiness is a nice house, a fancy car, a good career and lots of money...some say, happiness comes from within, nothing material from this outside world could ever make you happy, it has to come from your heart....
I was born and raised in a blue collar working class family in Beijing,so we don't have a lot of material things to begin with...I remembered my parents always struggled with their finances trying to make ends meet, despite that, I really enjoyed my childhood as a steel factory worker's daughter...As kids, we used to play with other kids a lot around the neighbourhood, catching bugs and climbing trees...I remembered one summer, my mom bought me a pair of new rubber boots, to me, they were the most beautiful green rubber boots I've ever seen in my life, I used to wear them all the time walking in the puddles in the rain, it was so fun and I was so happy with just what I have...
As I grew older, I start to realize money is important, I want nice looking clothes, I want fancy things so that I could show off in front of my peers, I want to be successful - which means at the time to me was to be able to make a lot of money....So from then on, for years I've been working so hard to get what I want in life, I always tell myself, just push myself a little harder, I would be better than others...But I don't think I was happy, I was never satisfied with what I had...and I've always craved for more...
2003, I came to Canada, it has changed my view of life forever...now I can tell you with confidence, I found happiness...Happiness is not as mysterious as it seems...Happiness is a feeling from within, it's not really what you own or how much money you have, or whether you have a good career or not... happinese is stress free, happiness is from sharing with others, Happiness is from having love in your life...
Just yesterday,me and my husband spent the whole afternoon cooking together, Mashed potatos, stuffing, dill beans, corn, served with gravey...a traditional easter holiday meal..the whole apartment was filled with the fresh smell of roast turkey...it was warm and cozy..even though we don't have fancy furnitures...We watched a movie together, and to finish off, we had cherry pie with cool whip...It was a perfect night...we cuddled together on the couch with our dog Riely...I can't ask for more...
You might say, you are not very picky...this doesn't sound like that much fun to me...oh well...you maybe right...but to me, it's something special, I enjoyed my company, I enjoyed my feast, I enjoyed my movie, I enjoyed every little bit of that wonderful evening...
Sometimes I think, if you have a simpler mind, don't dwell too much on what you don't have or what you want to have, but just simply enjoy what you do have in life, you will be a lot more happier...By saying so, I don't mean you should just stop working hard, and wait for the happiness to come to you... I mean you should enjoy what you have right now while working towards what your heart desires and build your future...
To a lot of people, being able to eat at a fancy restaurant and being able to drive a fancy car, living in a nice house will only bring satisfaction in life, to me, eating at a "all you can eat" buffet, driving a 5 year old Japanese car, living in a apartment doesn't seem to be that bad, as long as I get to travel around the world, go to all the different countries I want to visit before I reach the age of 50...That's my goal in life...just last year, me and my husband backpacked through England, Scotland, Wales and France, that in itself set my mind and spirit free...I don't have to stay in a 5 star hotel when I travel, even a simple plain bed and breakfast will do, I don't have to take a cab wherever I go...taking the public transit is adventurous and fun...I think I am a free spirit, as long as I get to live a boundary free life, I am happy...
So have you found your happiness yet?

我們一起看了一部電影,還吃了櫻桃派加cool whip(一種白色的奶油,中文不知道叫什麼)...
