很高興見到在曼哈頓橋頭包厘街運河街路口新增的隔離墩
我在8月3日臨去中國前發貼建議網民聯繫市政府在包厘街運河街路口增加阻擋失控車輛衝上人行道的障礙墩。
我以為沒有網民會做這個事,最終還得等我回美國來辦這個事。不料今天路過那裡,見到新設置的隔離墩。太好了。只是我覺得那隔離墩顯得太短。於是今天我在網上填表給市政府,建議或把現有的隔離墩延長二十英尺,或在人行道上增加幾個阻擋汽車用的立柱。
真不容易,曼哈頓橋1909年12月31日通車,至今115年,僅僅因為從橋上下來失控衝上人行道的交通事故就不知發生了幾百上千次,估計死了幾百人,到今天才在那個位置增設隔離墩。之前早幹嘛去了?也不知道是不是因為我8月3日發的帖促使網民去建議市政府安裝隔離墩。反正我今天在市政府網頁上寫了建議,把現有的隔離墩增強一點兒。
我今天在網上給市政府寫的建議:
At intersection between Bowery street and Canal street, I am glad to see new barrier is installed to divert out of control vehicles accelerating towards sidewalk while coming out of the Manhattan bridge. Such accidents appear occur a few times every year.
In my impression the new barrier appears minimum in terms of stopping or diverting possible out of control cars.
My suggestion is to extent current barrier 20 feet towards the intersection, or add a few anti-vehicle poles at certain spots on the side walk. The purpose is to prevent out of control vehicles getting onto the side walk.
