DICKINSON — A cow rescued from a Texas bayou after spending hours stuck in the muck Wednesday has died.
Owner Matt Hardy
believes the Brangus had been stuck in the bayou in Dickinson for at
least 14 hours. Volunteer firefighters and an excavation crew used a
crane on a barge to hoist the weak animal from the mud and water.
Hardy says he gave
the 3-year-old cow extra food and water. But he says by Wednesday night
the cow wandered back into the bayou and could not get out. He
eventually euthanized the animal.
Hardy said he
thought the cow originally got stuck while trying to get a drink, but
now believes the animal had a fever and was trying to cool down.
