中國成功發射全球首顆量子通信衛星(雙語)

China launched the world』s first quantum communications satellite (量子通信衛星) from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (酒泉衛星發射中心) on August 16。 It was a major step in the country』s attempt to be in a leading position in quantum research, which could lead to new, completely secure methods of transmitting information。

  8月16日,中國在酒泉衛星發射中心發射了世界上第一顆量子通信衛星。這是本國在量子研究試圖佔據領先地位的重要一步,並引導了全新且絕對安全的信息傳輸方式。

  The 600-kilogram satellite is nicknamed Micius (墨子), a Chinese philosopher and scientist in the fifth century B.C。 It is expected to circle the earth every 90 minutes after entering orbit (軌道) at an altitude of about 500 kilometers。 Researchers hope to use the satellite to send communications from space to earth and establish secure transmissions between two ground sites。 China has previously announced the construction of a quantum link between Beijing and Shanghai to be used by government agencies and banks。

  這顆600千克重的衛星稱為「墨子」——中國公元前15世紀的哲學家和科學家。在進入500千米高的軌道后,每90分鐘繞地球一次。研究者們希望利用這個衛星將通信從太空發送至地球,並且在兩處地面站之間建立安全的傳播。中國此前宣布在北京和上海之間建造用於政府機關和銀行使用的量子鏈。

  Traditional communications satellites send signals using radio waves while a quantum communications satellite uses a crystal (結晶體)。 The crystal produces a pair of entangled photons (互相糾纏的光子)。 They remain entangled even if one is transmitted over a large distance。 It is hence impossible to wiretap (竊聽) or crack the information transmitted through it。

  傳統通信衛星使用無線電波來發送信號,然而量子通信衛星使用的是結晶體。這種結晶體會產生一對互相糾纏的光子。即使其中一個被傳輸了一長段距離,他們始終保持糾纏。因此想要竊聽或者斷裂通過這種結晶體傳輸的信息是不可能的。

  Cybersecurity (網路安全) has been a major focus in recent years around the world in the wake of Edward Snowden』s (愛德華•斯諾登) revelations of widespread surveillance (監視) by the U.S。 Quantum messaging could become a major defense against hackers and have applications ranging from military and government communications to online shopping。

  Scientists and security experts in many countries are studying the quantum technology。 The biggest challenge is being able to accurately orient the satellite to a location on Earth where it can send and receive data without being affected by any disturbances in Earth』s atmosphere。

  China has spent years researching into quantum technology and developing the satellite and other uses for it。 The launch is a major triumph for the country。 Pan Jianwei (潘建偉), chief scientist on the satellite project, said the launch proved China was no longer a follower in information technology, but 「one of the leaders guiding future IT achievements。 」

  中國已在量子科技研究以及該科技在衛星與其他用途上的發展投入了多年努力。這次發射是我國的重大成功。此次衛星項目中的首席科學家潘建偉稱這次發射證明了中國不再是信息技術領域的追隨者,而是「引領未來IT發展的領軍者之一」。
